How are Viterbi's programs?

Interested in EECS (computer engineering? I don't know what it's meant to be called anyways), but I'm getting mixed reviews on how good Viterbi is. Going through past CC threads gets me anything from "USC's engineering programs are mediocre" to "Viterbi is consistently ranked top 10".

It’s great? I don’t think anyone would call it mediocre. I don’t think Viterbi is top 10, but it’s very close and EE is their highest ranked program.
If you’re interested in EECS Viterbi offers a BSCECS equivalent.

I’m a freshman engineering student and Viterbi is a pretty great engineering school. Although it may not be ranked in the top ten all the time, I know that some of its programs are better than others. Viterbi literally has the top video games program in the country. That major is labeled “Comp Science (Video-game design)”. The electrical engineering program as a whole is the best of the school, with the most the funding and students. Of course, we have our collection of Nobel Laureates, National Academy of Engineering members, and “35 under 35” professors too. I think the best thing about Viterbi is actually the partnership it has with another USC “school”, the Steven’s Institute of Innovation. The emphasis on innovation here is nice. My teacher saw one of his old students who graduated last year and randomly invited him to speak to the class. The kid started a company called Embark with a few USC friends. They’ve gotten 1.5 million hits on their app in the app store and about half of that in the google play store. I’ve had the opportunities to talk to the founders of Youtube, Twitter, and Yahoo. Some of friends are developing an ios app as freshman in their free time. I guess I don’t have experience from other colleges but the entrepreneurial spirit at Viterbi is what has impressed me the most. Even professors have started their own companies or are about to start their own companies. The trojan family is also a big deal.

Immatry, my S is a freshman CS major in Viterbi. He would second your comments.

USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering is far better than “mediocre.” All of its programs are very strong, while some are ranked higher than others. Viterbi may not rank with the top schools like MIT, Stanford, Caltech, UCB, etc. but it is still a great engineering school, especially for undergrad.
