What are the pros and cons of viterbi?

...bump...

as opposed to what? another school of usc? another engineering school?

Um... One of the best Graduate schools in the country - so undergrad is helped by that pub. Brand new building (RTH), etc... What major are you thinking about? Because some Viterbi majors are REALLY good, and some are just ok...

How is mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering for Viterbi for undergraduate?

how is their bio engineering program? like just in general not really in comparison to another school or anything

Um... Im in BME - there is a lot of money in the program in terms of research (even for undergrads - especially with Merit Research program)... The program is not currently ABET accredited, but that is not as important in BME as it is in the other engineering fields. I believe we are up for re-evaluation by ABET soon anyways... Overall, the level of Viterbi (students and programs) is well above the regular College.

What do you think of USC vs UT Austin vs Texas A&M for graduate EE?

I would def. put USC on top for graduate EE over those two. UT Austin has a really good CS program but it doesn't really bleed over to the rest of engineering. Dunno much about Texas A&M for grad but their ranking is lower so I'll say probably not.

Well, as far as US News rankings UT is pretty high in most areas (at least for their undergrad rankings.) I've been accepted to the grad school in EE at USC btw, but I've never even been to LA (I'm from Houston.)

How about USC vs CMU?

I don't know much about CMU, and I know rankings don't tell the whole story, but according to US News, we're slightly above CMU in engineering.

USC is the GREATEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD! EVERYONE SHOULD COME HERE! DONT WORRY ABOUT RANKINGS!

(I shouldnt be allowed access to the internet when Im drunk!)

How is their Civil Engineering program?

I received a scholarship to University of Illinois, which has one of the best programs in the country, but I really want to go to USC. Does anyone know how U of I compares to USC in Civil Engineering?

Civil Engineering at USC is awesome
Don't know about U of I though

To be totally honest, U of I is probably close to the best engineering school in the country for all engineering. I got a scholarship there and visited the campus, but chose USC because U of I is a really huge campus, boring town, and it's in the middle of miles and miles of cornfields. It is a very nice campus though.

I've always wondered how such a secluded school became the best engineering program in the country...

The boys at MIT, Cal Tech, and Stanford might have another view of the "best engineering program in the country."

Well, in my totally biased opinion, Viterbi School of Engineering beats them all! =)

To anyone at USC for engineering that knows: how much work is it to be a graduate TA in EE? From what I've read, they don't actually teach any of the classes -- is it mainly tutoring and grading hundreds of homework assignments?

Thanks.

TA's lead discussion sessions, which basically is a time to go over what the professor lectured on and answer any questions. Depending on the TA, it may be a lecture style class, or it could be just questions. The amount of "teaching" they do and the "learning" you receive depends on how well you understood the professor during lecture.

In the technical sense, the professors do all the teaching.

victoryismine9 - I know that both mechanical and aerospace are very strong for undergrad. This goes for everyone interested in cars or mechanical engineering: you should definitely check out the Formula SAE racing team. USC competes in a national competition against other colleges, and from what I have seen on the tour and from talking to current students, it's awesome. More information at fsae.com.
