How are you all paying for it?

My parents make about $140k combined. Can I expect to get anything? 50k a year is a ton of money.

sophiegoesto and others – when you say “bare minimum”…my mom makes 19k a year, and I live only with her. My dad is unemployed. Does this mean I could potentially get something?

Just on your numbers not knoowing anything else, puts your EFC around 30,000. So you may get some small scholarship, sub unsub stafford loan and Work study.

How would my EFC be 30,000??? My mom only makes $19,000. Anyway, I probably should have mentioned before that my EFC is 0. So my question is, with an EFC of 0, what kind of aid can I get from NYU? I’m just nervous because another school only gave me $5000 in grants and left me with the other $32,000 to pay in loans :-/ Should I expect the same from NYU, as it’s also notorious for really bad financial aid?

I was responding to danw316.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh. I’m sorry! I was confused because it was right under my comment and everything. Sorry again.

I’d say $200,000 is in the range of upper-middle class. But definitely not upper-class by any standards. Depending on how many siblings are in college now, and your parents total assets, you will or will not get aid (or the amount will vary).

I second ikatfabric’s concern. I’m an internation student but US citizen with an EFC of 0. Can I expect to somehow afford this school without having to sell my sould and several other organs? 50K is a nightmare number…

Here, here! I live in the US, but can anyone give me some info? Will they likely “cover” it all, but meet a lot of it with federal loans? Because that’s doable…I think…

I was wondering is any of you could tell me the Fin Aid Package you received and your families income (or range if you prefer). and maybe your EFC based off of FAFSA…

I just wanted to get an idea for what i would receive.
my household income is just under 30000 with an EFC of $1920.

on a realistic note, finances, especially finances of this scale, should be discussed with your PARENTS and their FINANCIAL ADVISER. not some students on an internet forum. we can’t tell any of you what the best course of action is. please, please, if you have serious questions about financing college, sit down with your parents. this is your future you’re all talking about here.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m only asking what I can expect…I’ve heard middle class kids get screwed over with aid a lot, but I’m definitely very low income. I’ve talked to my mom with loans, and she said if the loans are included in the financial aid packet, then I can take them. So I just wanted to know what very low income US residents usually get for financial aid.

I might sound selfish, but I’m really upset. Up until 3 years ago, my mom was the only one earning income for my grandmother, my two older brothers (who have now gone to the military and moved out) and myself. She only made about $20,000 a year.

But she got married to my step father who makes about $90,000 to $100,000. He has children who live with their mom, but his daughter (who is my age) moved in with us because of constant arguments with her mom.

So now my parents earn too much money to receive government aid and too little to be able to sustain two kids who will be going to college at the same time. I was so excited to get into NYU, but I think I’m going to have to attend a cheaper state school which I really don’t feel is suitable for me.

story of my life. my mother makes absolutely no money. my father, absolutely no money.

mom married stepdad… he makes 120k/yr.

nyu still does national merit scholarships right? my parent’s make a bit over 200k but i’m a quadruplet so there’s gonna be four of us in school next year. And if they don’t take css i don’t think i qualify with fafsa. so National merit?
