How are you personally going to pay for college?

Me... I have no idea how I am. I have no trust fund. My grades, though good enough to get me into a school... they're not necessarily scholar-worthy.

I want to join the military and get money that way... but that's the only thing I have going for me unless I stay instate.

I have a college fund from my grandma, but that’ll only cover a public school instate. (Basically with Pitt of Penn State)

so I guess if I want to go out to state I will have to take out loans or something. (I may qualify for financial aid, but I won’t for merit aid.)

:[ Parents. I really feel bad for them.
But if I want to go to grad school I’m definitely going to think of some way to pay most of it by myself.

Basically Vandy has incredible financial aid and covered everything except 12k, so no loans. Mostly my parents are paying, but only because 12k/year is not a big deal… if it were I would NOT let them pay for it and burden themselves because of me.

I will cross my fingers for financial aid. My mom is a nurse, so she only makes so much. My brother is going to college this year, and next year my sister and I are graduating. So, I think I may be able to get some.
Also, I have a Virginia 529 (I think that’s the name).

I haven’t really planned paying for college. My mom says that we’re in good shape though.

military, haha, I have plenty of friends who did that and ended up getting the shaft, if you were to join a branch though, make it the air force, anything else your out of luck. They’ll find ways to get around giving you the full GI Bill. They are very crafty.

It’s unclear exactly how much it’s going to cost - probably about $2000 a year. I’m not exactly sure how it’s going to work.

I was offered Perkins and Stafford loans, and one of those would cover the cost. I also was offered work-study, though I wouldn’t necessarily want to do that at first.

Oh yeah… I want to join Air National Guard (which is a branch of the Air Force). They paid for all of my dad’s law school (but like $17) and he didn’t even do JAG.

I definitely qualify for FA. Our EFC is $0 (has been since I was like …10) But… there’s the other difference to make up when schools don’t pay 100% of need.

Whoever said 12k wasn’t a big deal is super lucky! My parents right now can barely pay 9k in tuition for me and my sister combined.

^Lol, it was me. It’s not a big deal because our EFC was like 18k if I remember correctly, Georgetown left me paying like 30k out of pocket, stuff like that. So 12k is incredibly generous and under our EFC.

I think my parents are paying, but I feel HORRIBLE for them (it will probably be a big strain). Hopefully FA will be good, and I’m going to try my hardest to get scholarships.

They’re definitely not paying for grad school, though.

If you haven’t actually been in college , I wouldn’t be concerning myself with grad school just yet. You have a long way to go before then. Plus, grad is a whole world apart from undergrad. Worry about what you have in front of you now, don’t be concerned about the deserts on the snack bar. You’ll save yourself a lot of stress. Also, depending on what you major in, grad school may be completely useless unless you want to stay in academia. For example, grad school for engineering is just about a waste, unless you want to get a masters if a different discipline because you found another field interesting and you hate the one you majored in. There isn’t really any other incentive for an engineer to go through grad school other than sheer will and interest in something. It is not like you’ll make it up in compensation, I can tell you that much. If your majoring in something like psychology, math, or physics then yeah, plan on going to grad school, you’ll need it.

Phuloridian, that is the best thing you can do for undergrad, go where you won’t have to compensate. Ride it for all you can. I know of several people from here who are now going to grad school at Stanford, MIT, and Harvard and didn’t pay a dime here. So, now they aren’t in debt from undergrad and can live comfortably while going to there dream school. Undergrad doesn’t matter that much, it all depends on your major and what your doing.

I made moneys while attending college, it is nice to tell you the truth. What are you majoring in by the way? Yeah, if I was going to pay 40 a year for something, I would have bought a lexus every year if that was the case, lol. That is my opinion. You only live once, lol.
