My parents also told me not to worry about the cost. But I know FOR A FACT that we cannot afford college, and this is with me being the first child to go. However we make enough to qualify for “discounted” tuition at a lot of Ivys (assuming I get into any) although too much for free tuition. (Sorry, I don’t know the technical words)

I had 1000 dollars in my school fund but with the economy it went down to 600 dollars and we just used the money for my testing exam fees (ie SAT) and I have 1000 dollars of life savings lol. I’m willing to get loans for college and am counting on FA and scholarships. Oh well, I still have a good 1 year to not worry about this stuff.

My parents can pay full cost at any college rather easily. I’m more concerned with admissions and consider myself extremely lucky to be able to disregard the financial aspect.

My parents will be paying 80k a year for us to both go to college for three years, and 40k seperately when we arent in college at the same time.

My parents told me also not to worry about the cost. Because the truth is… I couldn’t go anywhere if I worried about the cost. None of the colleges that I qualify for/are in a region I’d be willing to study in offer 100% aid.

I just have to apply and see what comes back to me. One of the schools I’m looking at has a 93% aid met average… so that’s good… I think my parents could pull about 3.5% of the tuition and I could pull the other 3.5% if needed. =/

My parents are paying, but we’re really counting on some financial aid. They make a lot of money, but we live in a really expensive area, so we don’t really have extra.

Well, my sisters were both very lucky. They both got huge scholarships from really good schools and they both chose other schools where my parents had to pay full. They’ve always said that they would cover most of it (they won’t pay all so that we have some connection to paying for it, so we see what it’s worth). However, my college fund took a big hit with the stock market, so I’ll “have to take a closer look at scholarships.” I’m not overly worried though. We’ll make ends meet somehow.

I need a great financial aid package and loans. My mom can contribute absolutely nothing. Hopefully I’ll end up with less than $30,000 in loans, since I do want to go to grad school or at least have options.

Scholarships and loans (don’t want loans but depends on circumstances) If I stay in GA, tuition and books are covered, out of state, I pay for everything. I prefer my parents not paying because of personal problems, trust me I’m not trying to be the good daughter that is worried she’s using up her daddy’s money (well to some extent but there’s more). In all, I don’t know.

I’ve never worried about it too much, even though it’s definitely not all taken care of. My parents have a college fund for me, my grandparents had one (which I guess my parent’s have now). My aunt has one for me too, but I think she doesn’t put too much into it now that she has children. My mother has a lot of property that she’s selling. That’ll cover a good bit.
But basically, I’m going to have a lot of loans. I basically already have a house though, and it was bought for $89 a long, long time ago, so hakuna matata.

I’m going to a state school for 1, I have a little bit of money in the bank and my grandmother doubled it, the rest has to come from loans. I’m cool with that because Graduate school for my major is free thanks to the plethora of research and teachers aid positions (Woot for Chem Majors!).

sigh, my parents still have student loans from there college loans so I’m definitely going to be applying for a lot of scholarships. If I (hopefully) get enough FA it shouldn’t be too bad and If I stay in NC I could probably graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill debt free, especially if I become a Carolina scholar.

I feel bad for the students in Cali, the tuition rates there and the recent cuts on education are pretty painful.

Parents have some money but not much (parents are willing to take loans to pay for something like an MIT, but obviously that’s not ideal) so definitely looking at merit scholarships.

I’m going to try for the Park and Morehead, it would be great if I can get either.

By declining the FA offer from my dream school and accepting the FA offer from the state flagship.
I have difficulty even imagining a world where my parents could afford to pay for college, much less any college I wanted. As it is, I’m working this summer to make our assigned EFC. Asking my parents for money isn’t something I’d be comfortable doing.
Next year I don’t know how I’ll pay, since our EFC will double when it’s only me in college. But the year after that, there will be four of us kids going to four different universities. Needless to say, we’re all going to public schools.

I’m not! My combined aid (pure grant + scholarship) is $2,000 under my ECoA, but that sum total includes such superfluous things as “Books and Supplies, Personal Costs, and Travel Expenses,” which amount to $4000 or so. I can buy books used online, find good transportation deals online, and not have any additional personal expenses, and tada! Free college!

Still in major thinking. My single mom makes just enough to keep us going. This is my freshman summer, I’ve got a lot of scholarships to hunt down, will no doubt qualify for aid, and hope to get a job soon… I will likely rack up a lot of debt.

UCSD covered everything can gave me 2 loans one unsub and the other sub. I didn’t take the loans and preferred to work to pay as well as parents assisting so I can get out of college debt free and save a bit for graduate.

My uncle is also supporting me with extra money during times when it gets rough, ie: finals week as well as buying textbooks and other misc things.

I am happy to have so much support. Also be looking for scholarships as well as internships during my first year, if I get lucky :D
