I was just curious as to see how you CCers are planning to studying for the upcoming sat in oct or nov or whenever you plan to take it :) So whats your study plan?

So im going to this prep company called Elite. They are amazing and they help you lot, they give this practice tests are harder than the real but that doesnt mean their not accurate. On the side im doin the cb tests and all the other tests i can find. Im at around a 2000 at the moment hoping to get it up to 2250, i have 8 weeks hopefully i can do it.

hahah yeah. I have about eight weeks too. I’m at 2030 now and I’m also hoping for a 2200. But the thing is that I went from an 1810 to a 2030 so it’ll be harder for me to improve!

My plan:
Mon’s: All the CR sections
Tues: All the Math sections
Wed: All the Cr sections
Thurs: All the Writing sections
Sat: 1 full practice test
repeated for 8 weeks…

I have about a year or 2 before I take it in Junior/Senior year. Im a Soph. So I will be going over plenty of books from Chung to the original practice tests from CB.

LOL I have buddies that all scored 2300+ and they say that Elite sucked. Most of their progress came from rigorous self study.

I am learning ~27 DH words per day, or even 36. I do one section of the BB–either writing or reading. Not math for right now, because i SUCK at it. I read Gruber’s for a while. And at the end of every section of the BB, i see answer explanations. Starting tomorrow, i am going to go back to Test 1-4 in the BB and re-do the CR and W questions per section to see if i do better this time than last.

@harvardhottie may I ask what books you use for all that?

I’m using the Kaplan 12 practice tests book, and the barron’s critical reading workbook for the extra critical reading practice I’m doing (they have 3 full critical reading sections)… I’m going to end up with empty practice tests with only the critical reading sections done though. But I need most practice in CR.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I’m doing 2 wordlists froom the barron’s critical reading workbook a day :)

I’m taking a Kaplan course right now in addition to studying on my own, so I won’t have to take any practice tests on my own until September, when the course ends. My math is good, so that’s one less thing to worry about, but my CR is absolutely horrible. Right now, I spend about 5-6 hours a day just working on CR. Sometimes I will devote 1 hour or so for Writing. I mostly just do practice passages from books and stuff, but I am also in the process of memorizing Barron’s 3500 words and the Direct Hits.

Take a full practice test. Complete it. Then review it until I get the jist of it.
Then I take another practice and the schedule continues

D2 is doing the vocab from direct hits, she found that she didn’t know a lot of these words. She’s reviewing grammar and found out something she didn’t know. Grammar and vocab are her weakness. She’s ok with math. She’s going to do more reviews before taking the SAT practice tests.

I’m learning 10 words every day from Direct Hits, and solving one section of of either Math or Critical Reading. Im hoping to improve my score from 1370 to hopefully a 1600.

I take practice tests on Mondays. I then do CR (tuesdays), Writing (wednesdays), Math (thursdays), CR (fridays), then whatever on the weekend. Everyday I try to review vocab. from Direct Hits.

@brainiac on ur tues-frid. schedule what books do you use for the isolated sections preparation?

For math I started off with Grubers and went through all there practice problems and strategies. Since I finished that I started using Barrons which is great cause it has a ton of practice problems but Im debating whether or not to get Dr. Chung’s.

Writing and CR I’m using Barron’s workbooks which are also excellent for practice.

If I get bored of just doing practice problems then I might throw in a practice test to see how I do.

which barrons math book do you use? The workbook or just the regular SAT Barrons?^

I actually decided not to buy dr.chung just because it cost 30 dollars and i just study harder math questions with a SAT level 2 math book.

But every week from now till my psat I take one practice test. super analyze it. Study 5 word list each day. Then work on my weak points.

Repeat.

Dr. Chungs for math, DH for vocab, practice BB tests, Barrons 2400. I’m hoping to go from a 660 in math to a 740+ and from a 580 CR to a 660+

Hossain: regular Barron’s for math until I get another workbook whether it turns out to be Dr. Chung’s or not, and workbooks for CR and W

for writing, i just did like practice tests and did those writing sections. I started actually going back and seeing what was wrong with wat i did. You know what guys, 6 weeks ago i got a 400 in writing, today i took a test and got a 700. I am now a firm believer of practice makes perfect.
