How bad are these SAT IIs?

From the June administration I got:
Math I- 680
Math II- 690
Spanish- 650

The math scores I kind of expected, they match my score on the math section of the ACT, but the spanish was a shock (I am planning on retaking it). I was wondering, in your opinion, just how bad is the damage from these scores?

What schools are you applying to?

@usualhopeful I’m looking at a lot of selective schools (Georgetown, Brown, Middlebury, Swarthmore, CMC)…
I also have one other SAT score from May, 780 on US History.

They aren’t spectacular but they’re not terrible.

yeah they’re pretty decent

SAT IIs don’t hold much sway in the admissions decision. It’s just a box to check off. Focus on your essays instead

Also, don’t feel bad about Spanish. I’ve heard you should only take it if you’re bilingual

They’re pretty alright. Your Math SATs are kinda low percentile wise (but then again, I think a 750 is only the 60th or 70th percentile for Math SAT IIs?)

@DaedricSaiyan yea, the percentiles are killer on Math SAT IIs. I know what colleges will think lol but my math skills just aren’t great.

@hamiltrash yea its the spanish i’m most bummed about- i’m pretty good in class i’ve had straight As in all honors spanish classes since 8th grade, so I’m probably going to try taking it again in october

I agree with all of the above – I think your Spanish score is pretty great since most test-takers are fluent/native Spanish speakers. Colleges know and expect that for most languages, scores will be lower for non-native speakers.

Also, congrats on your fabulous history score! If I were you, I would not send your math scores to schools where 2+ tests aren’t required. I’m pretty sure Georgetown sees all tests anyway (?) and I know it requires 3 (ugh), but for most schools you should be fine with Spanish and history.

Use subject tests to display your strengths, not weaknesses. It’s okay that math is a weaker area for you, but since that is the case, it would be kinda silly to send in these lower scores when they’re not necessary. The math scores do show you are capable, but the Spanish and history scores show that you excel in those subjects and that’s what the schools that you are looking at want to see from subject tests.

@yonceonhismouth They could be a lot worse. Btw I’m taking the us history subject test, so what prep book did you use to get such an awesome score?

This is ridiculously simplistic and flat out incorrect.

@ambitionsquared I took AP US history this year, and I actually took the SAT II the day after the AP, so I used my AP studying to prep. Then the night before I used the Princeton Review book, read it over, and took one practice test.
Barrons also has a good prep book!

It’s just the information I’ve gathered from my experiences and what would seem to be accurate in OP’s case with absolutely fine scores. If you’re going to say my information is so wrong, give the OP your own insights so they can have more perspectives!
