Hey all,
I’m a current 8th grade student. I currently have a B in geometry honors in 8th grade. Assuming the worst, let’s say my school decides to count this course towards my HS GPA(not sure yet), and I finish with a B in both semesters. Will there be a serious impact in my HS GPA that it does not make me competitive for admission in top undergrad CS colleges?
PS. it’s an honors class so it is weighted accordingly. I also have 2 months before the semester ends, so I think I can raise it, but I’m preparing for the worst.
I don’t think that it will matter much if at all. You are only in 8th grade. A few universities will not even consider classes taken in 9th grade (specifically most of the U.California’s and most schools in Canada).
However, this might be a lesson: Don’t think that jumping ahead in classes will necessarily help you. In Math what you learn today is based on what you learned yesterday and last week and last year, and what you are going to learn next week and next year depends upon what you are learning today. You need to take courses in the proper sequence and avoid skipping entire classes.
If you are taking honors geometry in 8th grade then you are probably very good at math. I think that it is worth working particularly hard on this class and probably getting some help after school and seeing whether you can pull your grade up to an A.
