<p>No. Unlike in ECs, where some people say that joining things at the last minute makes it look like it's just for college, you are expected to move up in class rigor throughout high school. At many schools, APs are not allowed until Junior year, and most people take more each year. Yes, you will be up against people who have taken APs for 3 or 4 years, and if you haven't taken the most rigorous courses your school offers, that is not ideal...but it definitely doesn't look like a last-ditch effort.</p>
