How bad...Please help!!!!

Ok so here is the situation: like most parents, mine believe that I am some amazing student and straight up genious that can get into UVA. Again, like most cases, they are flat out wrong. If you were an admissions reader, what would you think of me?

As you can see, Im not all that impressive. Although, I know that if I had an interview with an admissions person I could win their hearts, because I am so good at communicating. Anyways, I want to major in Business and/or English (concentrated in creative writing). The main question is.. how bad is my transcript, and how unlikely is it that I get in?

genius*
Your SATs aren’t great, and neither is your ACT, but you seem to be very involved. If you’re doing well in your AP classes, you have a chance. Hopefully your communications skills came out in your essays.

UVA does not offer interviews. I suggest you post in the “chance me” section of the fourms. You will receive more responses there as that is what that section is designated for.

Exactly what Im saying… im not smart!! Haha

GPA? Will you graduate in the top 10 percent of your high school class? If that’s the case, then maybe you have a shot. But those SATs…can you take them again? I know many, many kids (okay, yes, they are from Northern Virginia) with 2000+ sats that were rejected.

“like most parents, mine believe that I am some amazing student and straight up genious that can get into UVA. Again, like most cases, they are flat out wrong.”

Truer words have never been spoken

Lol, for me it is the complete opposite. My parents don’t think I have a shot in hell at the majority of schools I applied to and they’re right. I should have listened to them but what is done is done.

UVA or Bust…It will work out in the end. Trust me on this! You will be accepted to those schools that will want YOU! Therein lies the caveat…Sometimes…(as parents this is true as well!) we think we know what is best but ultimately…things work out for a reason. I really believe that! Good luck to you…:)

Thanks guys  Funny thing is, I dont even want to go to UVA. I have my heart set on Christopher Newport, even though its not an “impressive school”. I have already been accepted, but my parents dont like that school. Also doesnt help they think its ghetto…

“I dont even want to go to UVA”- @aubreyy

Sorry, that doesn’t compute with my brain. ;)

You will be fine wherever you go to school as long as you apply yourself and work hard.

Wanna know why? I visited uva and it was like they didnt care at all about us. Dont get me wrong uva is an amazingggg school hands down, but dont deny that they are quite snobby. I want to go somewhere where my name means something… but me explaining myself is a lost cause especially when im replying to a guy named “big shot”. Good luck to ya hot stuff…

^^ I think that is too broad of a generalization to make of the entire UVA community. Yes, a lot of students at UVA do come from privileged, affluent backgrounds…and they are more than capable of displaying that social and cultural capital, but that is not the case for everyone. Despite the continual cuts from the state in financial support, UVA is still a public university, and will inherently attract a diverse student body from a number of backgrounds. It’s really difficult, and unfair, to make such blanket statements after visiting Grounds for such a short period of time.

As a UVA alum, and current graduate student at an elite, private, research university in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic (depending on how you construct geographic regions), UVA is really much more balanced compared to what can be experienced elsewhere.

aubreyy, looks to me like you are in excellent shape
You already got accepted to your first choice school. You might not get into the one, UVA, that your parents would choose for you (good, right?), AND you are a great communicator! So your job now is to COMMUNICATE to your parents why Christopher Newport is a good school for you. Approach it with respect for their beliefs, yet a sense that they do not know everything about Christopher Newport that you know and love about it, and explain. And also with a wait-and-see attitude for both schools. In other words, you don’t need to start out pushing, just explaining, chatting. When the decisions come, go from there, and best of luck!

Aubreyy, I’m sorry, but you have virtually no chance of being admitted to U-Va. But I think you know that already . . .

Calm down grandma… now go back to your scrapbooking and stop crushing kids self esteem.

Aubreyy, that was not necessary to say the least.

Lol 10char

Everyone needs to find the school that is the best fit for them, regardless of what a certain magazine tells them to think.

Well you haven’t taken any AP math or science related classes which could hurt you. Did you take subject tests?

Sadly I didnt… and I should have. I mean its not like I think Im going to get in, its just like with most schools Im seen as a smart kid, but not good enough for all the big schools. I just wish all these schools would send out decisions already… I know Ill love wherever I go, but the waiting is killing me!
