I plan on doing a major in Chemical Engineering in college, so I am taking APs in Math, Science, and Social Studies. Because of this, I don’t have room in my schedule to take AP English junior or senior year, so I have to take Honors English instead. I plan on applying to top 20 colleges. How bad will it look not taking any AP English class in high school?
It won’t look bad. If you’re concerned about it, perhaps your GC could mention it in your letter of recommendation that you had scheduling conflicts both years? If this is the case, you will still have taken the most rigorous schedule available to you, so surely this would be considered.
I meant I didn’t have room in my schedule to fit in another AP class in addition to the other ones I was taking, and still maintain good grades and extracurriculars. Do you still think this would be acceptable for top 20 colleges?
Also sometimes you need to look at what is taking up space in your schedule…I would think that top students should be able to take say AP Calc and AP english.
If you are filling up space with AP Stats or AP Environmental science, then ditch those for AP English if you would rather take that.
But if it is AP Calc or AP Chem that is taking up your space, then you are fine.
