How badly will this affect my chances?

Hello all.
I'm a Junior and I've just committed the stupidest mistake ever.

Brief run through of "Stupidest Mistake Ever" : I changed my answer on a Physics test after it was graded and submitted it for a regrade and was caught. Along with another 10 people.
Anyway, I got suspended for a day and I'm pretty sure this falls under Academic Dishonesty.
I'm doing the IB. I have decent grades. Even in Physics. My SAT score is 2200.
How much will this suspension affect my chances of admission into top colleges?
I know I shouldn't have done it and couldn't regret my actions more.
Will try and compensate with good essays. I know I can't ever completely compensate for my actions but...
Oh and to make things worse, I'm an International Applicant

Well… it depends. Is it on your permanent record? Will your counselor mention it in his/her recommendations? Did you receive any kind of serious disciplinary action for this?

If none of the above, then take it as a lesson well learned and colleges could never find out. If it is on your transcript or something, then it might affect your chances a bit. But perhaps you can talk about it and admit that you’ve made a very bad decision. They appreciate honesty.

More than a bit. Colleges have enough great applicants (especially international) that they don’t need to accept people about which they have integrity concerns.
