Hello,

I am an international student in the IB applying for UMich Ann Arbor Fall 2014, my major is Mechanical Engineering with the alternate being Computer Science

In the IB I have a predicted of 7 in my Physics HL, however I only have a 730 in Physics SAT. My Math is a 770. I know these are rather low , considering the percentiles, but would my Physics HL score sort of nullify the SAT?

I have no way to retake it as the applications have to go in by 1st November (I am doing EA)

IMO the SAT2 is a better proxy of your physics knowledge.

Those scores are perfectly fine. Only top students take SAT subject tests in Mathematics 2 and Physics, so percentiles are misleading. But if you do not wish to submit those scores, you do not have to. Michigan does not require, or even “recommend” subject tests.

bearcats, IB Physics HL is pretty advanced by high school standards. The SAT 2 is not a better proxy of physics knowledge, it is merely aligned with the AP curriculum.

Those aren’t bad scores, not to mention UMich only considers SAT2 scores for the benefit of the applicant. They can’t hurt you when applying to UMich. I sent in worse scores and I doubt they affected me in any negative way.
