i mentioned someone's name but then i accidently used a different name when i mentioned him later on. i reall really hope this isn't going to make it seem like i'm making stuff up.

i also accidently put 4 years on the supp when i put 3 years on the common app.

yeah, crap, two mistakes for one app. sucks...

Put yourself in the adcom's shoes. (S)he is spending 10-15 minutes per application at the larger schools and 20-30 minutes at the smaller schools. (S)he is reading essay...after essay...after essay...after essay. Do you really think they're going to catch a typo or two? :p

If you're that worried about it, email them a fresh copy of your essay to be substituted for the one already submitted.

Actually, it will matter a lot. On a psychological level, a typo on a college application essay can indicate insecurity, unwillingness, or even blatant indifference to the school that you are applying to. A typo may show the school that you either:
1) Did not take the time to even run an automatic spell check
2) Or rushed through it because it was only for a safety school
3) Or were so (drunk, smashed, high) the whole time that you never noticed it.

Either way, it will be negatively affecting your future college potentials.

P.S. Actually don't worry. Many people make mistakes on their essays. An essay is just to show what you feel and is not a college admissions writing test. I was just making an insane list just to make your life exciting.

I got into UNC OOS and BC Honors program with a typo (missed a word) - and trust me, I looked over that essay tons of times (one of those things where you're expecting a word to be there so you don't notice when it really isn't). I think you'll be fine.
