im in the process of applying for the naval academy for next year. I have been reading hte forums and sometimes i get worried. I have about a 3.3 gpa with taking honors and AP courses i know its average, however i make up for alot of EC, i am captain of varsity sport, president of a club, i volunteer ALOT, im involved with my church, then my SAT's are okay, i mean my writing/critical reading is a 630 then math is really bad, how much of the SAT's do they look at to decide if you are eligable. a friend who goes their now says he knows a few people who had 3.0 gpas and got in. i know you must be an all around person and i am, i jsut worry about the factor of my SAT

Are SAT scores important? Sure they are. Will low scores keep you out? Maybe. But the more important question to ask yourself is:

Is that my best? If so, there’s nothing to do but apply and hope.

However, if you think you can do better then study and retake. Take the ACT too. The NA will use the better of them.

Good luck.

Agreed. Sats are important, to varying degrees. You don’t indicate you are a specific “need of the Navy,” thus we’ll assume you are just an average, super kid absent the characteristics of the moment that allow for a wider range …

Indeed, they are part of the overall assessment, and notably math. Work on it, try the ACT …many do much better on this, especially achievers vs. aptituders. Go get 'em and as ossie notes…all you can do is your best. No more, no less.

In any case, doing one’s best does not lend relief to worry. Welcome to the world of worriers! It persists until that thick envelope arrives.
