How big does Temple feel?

My son has been accepted into 7 colleges, with an 8th still pending. Temple is his largest school to which he has been accepted and he has visited for an info session and tour. He has also been accepted into the Honors Program.

He is definitely expressing a preference for smaller colleges (1,600 to 8,000 UG range) due to the higher expected personalized attention.

Last night when we were discussing, he said that he’s heard that “you can always make a large college feel small.” Do you find that to be true? What has made Temple feel small and personalized for you? How does the Honors program help?

Thanks in advance!

The honors program offers smaller class sizes, as well as a small community within a large school. I will be attending Temple next year, and the honors program is definitely what sold me. In addition to the info session and tour, he can also schedule an honors visit where he can sit in an honors class to get a feel for it, have lunch with students, and meet advisors. I did that and I loved it!

@jnkam24 Thank you. Did you look at much smaller schools too? Or did you know you wanted a large university?

I looked at mostly larger schools in major cities, but a couple of small ones too. One of my first choices was Bentley University, which is only around 5000 students! I decided on Temple without even hearing back from them or a few others because I felt really comfortable there, and I felt like even though it’s big I would get a more personalized experience with honors. Best of both worlds. TBH, if I didn’t get in honors it probably would not have been my first choice.

my son is in honors. it is a small community within a large campus so kids get the benefit of customized attention if they seek it and the plusses of a huge campus as well. For example, he will have internship options in his major in part because the Temple alumni has a strong presence in philly. There are parties, sporting events, pretty much anything you want because it’s philly.

On campus does not seem as huge as the student body is. one of my relatives defined the Temple campus as an oasis in philly, having been on campus a lot, that is a great way to describe it.

Thank you! @jnkam24 @ctl987
