How BSish do these classes sound?

Okay so if all goes as planned - it probably won't - these will be my classes for next semester.

Happiness
Intro to Education
Intensive Spanish - Drill (the only real one)
Ballet I
Discrete Math - Writing Based

I feel like this schedule isn't even real at all but I guess it really doesn't matter. I'm fulfilling all the core requirements and major stuff and whatnot. Spanish will kill me but all the other classes sound like a joke to me.

Are you really taking a class called Happiness? That’s pretty cool.

I dunno, Intensive Spanish and even Discrete Math sound legitimate. It could be a much worse schedule if you ask me.

Lol… what’s ur major?

Spanish and Math sound like real classes…the rest, not so much.

My first semester also sounded like BS…but it sort of was. PS, I’d be psyched to take a class called Happiness! I’m sure Intro to Education is a real class as well.

I took Intro to Psych, Alcohol and Culture, Contemporary American Society, and Norwegian my first semester. Don’t sweat it, you’ll be fine.

It’s probably a good idea to load up on easy-ish classes your first semester. That way, you have less studying to do, and more time to acclimate to the new surroundings.

Btw, what IS a class on Happiness? And what is your major?

Discrete math is usually a class that’s a requirement for CS majors, but it’s a vague enough title that it could also be a class meant for people with no real interest in math. The only way to know if it’s a serious class is to post the description.

You, my dear, are full of BS. Your classes anyway. Those classes sound worse than the Dance Dance Revolution class I will be taking this fall.

I took discrete math and we did a lot of proofs and very few computations. If that’s what you mean by writing based, that’s normal. My discrete math class wasn’t particularly hard, but it wasn’t a BS class either. Of 'course, I have no idea about your class.

I’m presuming happiness is some sort of philosophy class? If so it could be a blow-off class or it could be hard. We can’t tell you. Philosophy is a legitimate academic field though, so I wouldn’t necessarily call it a BS class.

I don’t know anything about an education curriculum. If the class is meant for those getting a teaching certificate then it’s probably legitimate. Not necessarily hard, but legitimate. If it’s meant for people other than those getting a teaching certificate, it’s likely just BS.

Ballet is not an academic field. It’s a fine art. For someone who isn’t majoring in ballet (in which case they’re getting a BFA or something, not an academic degree like a BA) it sounds like it would be a BS class.

I am agreeing with Vladenschlutte, some of them might SOUND like BS classes but actually might be more difficult then you think. I have a friend that took a philosophy class and practically failed it because he isn’t very philosophical and it is a very open class when it comes to your answer. Technically there is no such thing as a wrong answer but the professor might not like the one you give and therefore mark it wrong. The only class I would say is BS is Ballet since it most likely has nothing to do with your major and will just be a GPA boost.

Psychology 1504: Positive Psychology:
The course focuses on the psychological aspects of a fulfilling and flourishing life. Topics include happiness, self-esteem, empathy, friendship, love, achievement, creativity, music, spirituality, and humor.

Pfft, I took Psychology -1504: Negative Psychology:
The course focuses on the psychological aspects of a sad and pathetic life. Topics include sadness, self-deprecation, apathy, enimity, hate, failure, ineptitude, dealth metal music, bad spirituality, and tragedy.

I get all the girls now.

But for real, what is your major?

Yeah, what’s your major? And the “Happiness” class to me sounds like it could be a Psychology class, not so much a Philosophy class as someone suggested.

Happiness is psych 101. I’m an Educational Policy Studies major. Basically also a BS major. I’m really excited. Except for Spanish.

Sounds like a funny class title, not a BS class. Swarthmore’s a serious school, I doubt there are tons of classes there that are underwater basket weaving.
