How can I convince my teacher or guidance counselor to round me up less than a point for honor roll?

I have a 79.07 in honors history at the end of the quarter right now and I need a 80 in all classes to achieve honor roll. It would really mean a lot to me to achieve it as we have a ceremony at the end of the year for honor roll students and after not making it last year I really strived to do better in all my classes and It would feel terrible to let one point stop me from accomplishing this goal I had the whole semester. I don’t really know what to say to my teacher as he is really strict and hard to sway. I feel as though he grades unfairly because it is literally impossible to get over a 2/3 for classwork and participation which actually counts for a lot of the grade. I feel that classwork and participation should bolster grades lower them. Also for my research paper I should have gotten a 85 but he took of 10 points because I turned it in late due to a technical problem which I had proved wasn’t my fault by showing him screenshots of my submission before the due time but he just ended up lecturing me on time management. The average for tests and quizzes in our class is like a 70% if not lower. In the other honors class with a different teacher everyone seems to have easily achieved As, and I just makes me wish I switched out at the beginning of the year. Is there anything I can do for my teacher even though the quarter is over to get .5% on my quarter grade? Or Is there anything I can say to my guidance counselor so that she will understand and round me up?

Thanks

You can talk to the head of the department & show him/her the screen shots of your “late” assignment. That may be enough to tip your grade.

Which may not work for the reason I will mention later. Plus the teacher is almost always the first person with whom one should have the discussion.

And not unreasonable that he did. FYI, almost all of my syllabi have stated something to the affect of “HW/papers/take homes are due by XX:YY on the due date. However, do not wait to the last minute, because your computer/server problems are not my problem.”

You need to speak to the teacher, not the GC. It is highly unlikely (and unprofessional) that the GC would change a teacher’s grade. Unless the teacher plans on giving everyone a bump, in the absence of a clerical error, I’m not sure why you would deserve special consideration.

Talk to the teacher. One of my friends recently had a 92 in AP Physics & she wanted high honors so she talked to our teacher and he rounded it up one point. Of course, a 92 is different from a 70, but you should always talk to the teacher first. Discuss your hard work, work ethic, etc. Who knows, maybe your teacher will change it. Doesn’t hurt to try, but you should try with your teacher, not anyone else.

How did your friend start off the conversation? I feel like if I just said I’m here to talk about rounding my grade or something he wouldn’t take me seriously as he had said before he doesn’t really round and just leaves it as is. Is there a better approach?

I don’t know talk about how hard you have worked and how all of your grades are honor roll except this one is a point away and maybe how you hope to improve your grade in the future. It might not work, like I said a 92 is much more sympathetic than a 79 but I say give it a shot, and talk about again how you will continue to work hard and raise your grade and get help in the class and improve your work habits etc.
