I’m trying to figure out how to calculate my district weighted GPA. I’m a high schooler in Florida. How can I figure it out? What is each AP, regular, and honors class worth? Is an AP class of a lesser weight if it is only one semester compared to one that is a full year? What about Dual Enrollment? How much will these classes bring up my GPA? And how do Florida colleges recalculate GPAs? All information is beneficial, thank you.
Each district will calculate weighted GPA a bit differently (in Florida). We really don’t have a state wide standard. Ask for a copy of your transcripts from the GC, they can print it out for you and it will have your district weighted GPA.
The public universities in Florida will use your district GPA or they will recalculate it. Typically, it’s on a 4 point scale, with them giving an extra 0.5 points for honor classes (pre-AICE/pre-IB) and an extra 1.0 points for AP/IB/AICE/Duel Enrollment classes. (drop any + or -, only use the letter grade).
For example, “C” in a regular class is worth 2.0 points
A “C” in an honor class is worth 2.5 points
A “C” in an Duel Enrollment class is worth 3.0 points.
An “A” in an AP class is worth 5.0 points.
When figuring out your grade, you don’t use the letter grade you earned each 9 weeks. Instead follow these guidelines. They are setup for the SSAR used by UF and FSU, but it will also work for any other schools.
Good Luck!
