I’m thinking about to major in engineering at Penn State Park. However, I don’t really know how hard it is to get into the college of engineering in Penn State. Do they require interview ? And what kind of ACT scores/GPA do you need to get in?
Also when I apply this school, shall I choose my major on the applying form or just choose undecided?(Just for get in more easily and transfer to the engineering school after I got in?)
I don’t think you can get into engineering if you’re undecided.
There are no interviews for admission to PSU. For GPA/SAT scores google PSU admissions bubble chart. It will give you a good idea of general admissions standards - engineering in a little tougher than that but it is a good rough start.
If you are concerned that your numbers are low you can increase your chances by applying undecided and being willing to attend summer classes before freshman year.
There is no downside to applying undecided. You can take all of the same classes and have the same entrance to major requirements as somebody who applied directly to engineering. The above poster is incorrect.
@slightblue I echo Dreadpirit above that there is really no downside to being in DUS (the “undecided” college). Just get admitted, then take the core Math and Science courses right away. Even undergrads already in engineering have to finish what they call the core “entrance to major” courses by the end of sophomore year, with specific GPA requirements depending on what engineering major you want to take. Here are the requirements for this year’s incoming freshmen:
If you want to graduate in 4 years, you may also have to be sure to also take other engineering courses by your 3rd semester. It depends on your major, though. To get a better sense of what these courses are, browse to a sample academic plan for your engineering major here:
So how hard it is to get into college of engineering if I apply directly ?
Did you read the posts from your first thread? It’s UNIVERSITY Park; the essay is optional but recommended; look at their Common Data Set.
