I am 16, in junior year. I desperately want to get into UCSB. I am going to take the SAT this spring in March, and then maybe a second time in june. I live about 4 hours north of Santa Barbara so I will be an in state applicant when I apply. Here are my grades so far:

Freshmen year( I messed up this year) 3.0 Average GPA

Sophomore year: 3.3 GPA

I am still working on my grades this year, but they are heading towards the same gpa as sophomore year (3.2-3.3). I dont do any extra curriculars, nor will I be able to because I take care of my brothers, so how can I get into uc santa barbara with no extra curriculars as of now?

The average GPA for UCSB was around 4.1 UC GPA and around a minimun of a 3.8 UC GPA, you need to get that GPA up and do very very well on your SAT to have a shot.

Good luck, Extra curriculars would have really helped though, join a club that meets during lunch or something to atleast have something.

Yes, as Muserz said, you REALLY need to try to get that GPA up this year…are you in honors/AP? FYI they (UC admissions) don’t count freshman year GPA so you are safe there. Also make sure you study for the SAT by taking practice tests and making sure you understand your errors. I also recommend trying the ACT by the end of your junior year then compare that to your SAT score and see which one you should retake (ACT is generally easier than the SAT except for the smaller time limit per section). Also, you must have some kind of EC’s by the time you apply; try joining a club or two and put in some volunteer work somewhere. Also if you get a job it looks good on your app. Good luck on your apps next year!
