So I am a junior right now and I was wondering how I can improve my SAT score. I took the one in October and I scored a 1360 (650 E 710 M). With a lot of practice, I feel like I can do well on the math and writing sections but the reading section is really tripping me up. Can anyone give my tips on how to improve on the reading section? I’m aiming for a 1520+ and my absolute dream school is UPenn but I know that I would have no chance with my 1360.
Read read read!!! Like most things the best way to read improve skill is practicing it. Read more than just assignments. Look over questions and quiz yourself. Look up and learn unfamiliar vocabulary. In As lit class, learn the title and author, why the piece is important and important formal distinctions such as theme, fiction and other descriptors in lit. Reading is part of life so just read.
My son improved his SAT score through self study only
He went from a December 1480 (EBRW 710, M 770j
To an August 1570 (EBRW 780, M 790)
He would take SAT practice tests and study on Khan academy 3 days a week and then he made sure to just read more in general - fiction that he enjoyed to improve his reading speed and vocabulary exposure.
I know that for me Kahn Academy worked pretty well and doing a lot of practice tests helps too. I would also recommend getting Barron’s SAT prep book as their reading section has good tips and if you do well on their practice tests people tend to do well on the SAT, as people say that their practice tests tend to be slightly harder.
