Currently, my SAT score is the mid 600s, and I would really love to increase it to 700-800. I have memorized the Barron’s 500 flashcards, but I feel like it’s not enough. Should I try the 3500 or 1000 flashcards? What worked for you guys? Also, after I took a practice test, I always went back and looked at my mistakes and tried to understand why I made that error. I usually miss the questions because I didn’t have enough time to think through it. Should I practice reading faster? Are there any other things that I should do? Thanks!
Erica Meltzer’s books are good for both critical reading and writing. Follow Debbie Stier and stellarscores on twitter. Read a news article every day and look up words you don’t know. For sentence completion questions, you should always keep from looking at the answer choices until you have your own word in mind.Other good books for vocab are Direct Hits 1 & 2 and also Hot Words For The Sat. Good Luck!
To improve your reading score, you should read the Meltzer’s reading guide book VERY THROUGHLY and CAREFULLY! And memorize as many SAT vocabs as you can. To be honest, reading a news article personally didn’t help my reading skills, so I would use it to memorize more vocabs.
To improve your writing score, just do a lot of problems and memorize why you got it wrong. For sentence identification problems. knowing your vocabularies DOES help significantly.
Good Luck~
Personally, I urge you to avoid Erica Melter’s CR book because it brought my score down 100 points and made me unable to finish any Critical Reading section on time.
My advice to you is to try ignoring the passage first, answering the line reference questions by reading around those line references, going back to read the passage entirely, and then answering the remaining questions.
