How can I make my AP Chem class easier?

What are some methods? last test half the class failed.
please give me some suggestons.

Study tough concepts from a review book, which tend to break down things to make it easier for comprehension....

Read the chapter for the next class before going to class....
So when class time rolls around, you can ask questions about the chapter.

(Although, i don't know if teachers tell their students to read the chapter before coming to class.)

ALso, look online and see if there are any helpful sites.

drop the class.

just kidding

i would suggest reading ahead in an AP review book, and getting a general idea of the concepts before the teacher goes over them. then you will familiarize yourself with the concepts and not have to go over them in your mind as much while learning them.

Haha, AP Chem.............worst year of my life. Except maybe 7th grade. Wish I knew some tips, it might've made it easier for me.

Yeah, AP Chem is like a foreign language right now
It's hard

Curses. My old school only offered Chemistry 1, and only this year did it offer AP Chemistry. There aren’t too many hard courses, so naturally, there aren’t too many Ivy Leaguers. Did you guys take AP Chem as juniors?

I'm currently taking AP Chem and I'm doing.. ehh alright. I would suggest using a review book and just before a test do a bunch of practice problems. If you have any specific questions, you can ask me (IF I'M DOING THE SAME TOPIC).

Good Luck!

i wish i had tips for you, but since i had such an amazing teacher it was very easy for me (7 people out of 74, including me, got 5s)

i took it as a junior

I am taking it as a senior and it is fun.(well, I am chem major;)
Well, AP people recommend students spend at least 5 hours a week to study. But it takes 1 hour to finish my hw. so sad.... well, the thing is
try group-studying. I usually don't like group things but it actually helped me. Good luck.

ahh would i love to drop AP Chem. I should have taken it my junior year as I took Chem 1 my 10th grade year. But no, I im taking it as a senior and barely surviving. Id take AP Calculus over AP Chem any day

i had an awesome teacher, our class had 100% pass rate (15 kids), but we did literally every year of free response questions like.. hundreds of times. we also read zumdahl like our bibles. I think you should read zumdahl slowly and study the examples.

i agree with Jimmy...read your textbook SLOWLY and, multiple times. I've also learned that taking 20 minute naps or doing hw in the morning- if you didn't understand it the night before- seems to help a little because your brain has time to go over it. Wierd advice, I know.

It's the most difficult class I've taken in high school. Although I was glad when it was over, it was a very rewarding experience.

I finally figured out that the only thing that could help me was THOROUGHLY (sp?) reading each chapter before the test. But my class was a lot different from some of the experiences related here -- we didn't have any homework the whole year (except for lab reports).

I'm taking AP Chem right now (as a junior). For me, it's pretty easy. I use the study guide that came along with the Zumdahl textbook when test time comes around. I do practice problems over and over again, even when I get the right answer, so that helps alot.

Do the homework with someone. If you don't get something, they explain it to you, and if they don't get something, you explain it to them. It works out great--by the end, you get everything.

This works best when the partnership is one of equals, though. I had a girl from last year's AP Bio class sitting next to me earlier in the year, and it was great, being able to poke each other during lecture for explanation. But because of a bunch of idiots who never shut up, our teacher rearranged our seats, dumb-smart-dumb-smart. Now, I'm sitting next to a Neanderthal who couldn't give a flip, and it stinks because Chemistry isn't my strongest class. GRRR!!!

ebonyqueen and anybody else who can answer this question: is it worth it to buy the Zumdalh study guide? I already have the textbook and selected answers book. If so, how does the study book help?

if you are struggling with the major concepts, buy the Princeton Review guide to AP Chemistry. If the problems are just evil, then just do a lot of practice problems. and if all else fails, hire a tutor

@billybobby
i got the study guide in front of me right now and looking at it...its got a ton more extra probs for you to do and its got some extra explanations of various items...i dunno if its any good seeing as i've never actually used it(our school issues everyone a copy automatically) because my teachers is extremely good...

well i took it as a junior and it was pretty easy for me. However, i did see some classmates really doing badly on the tests. My advice is read the textbook until u really understand the thing. While u r doing that take notes. Also try the Zumhdaul problem sets. If u really want a prep book i would suggest barrons since it has enough details for the unit tests. Good Luck.
