how can i make my application stand out??

im in gr 10 in an enriched school
my grades are range through high 80s to high 90s
but chem is a big problem, showing progress, just with a really bad start (57)
lots of other people in my grade are finding it challenging as well
because its a grade 11 course. and in my school people are a grade ahead for math&science
my other problem is french, which is a 73, but i am hoping to bring it up to the 80s, and next year i will probably drop it

i am interested in medicine (optometry specifically), and i hope to go to either the university of waterloo, stanford, nova southeastern uni (in florida), and im not sure where else yet. im also canadian, but theres a high chance i will apply for an american university.

what would things i could do now to prepare for my university application to stand out?
i always hear things like going to a developing country, or having a fundraiser to make big money for a good cause, etc. what should i do?? and what are some strategies that i should keep in mind?

I’m not really sure, but please do things you like. You’ll be better at what you love, and if they they don’t help you get into college, at least you will be happy!

What’s #1 is to get high grades. #2 is to get high scores. As admissions officers at top colleges say, ECs can wake the living, but they can’t raise the dead.

And it’s only the top colleges – places like Harvard, Stanford – that factor ECs into admission. That’s because such colleges have such an overabundance of high stat applicants that the colleges can choose from among those to create a well rounded, diverse student body.

When it comes to ECs, do what you love and do them with leadership, creativity, independene, and results. Don’t, though, sacrifice grades in your pursuit of ECs.
