Well, I'm in community college and really miserable. I have no friends at all, can't find a job anywhere in this economy. I need to do something productive or I'll go crazy.

job search on craigslist, that’s what i did. i honestly can say i never met one person while attending community college and just basically was there to get it over with and move onto bigger and better things, i feel ya.

I got a job tutoring math on college. I also got a job in a different tutoring center tutoring chemistry/physics/engineering.

I found tutoring the bring out the best of my time in the community college system.

Ogi

Most of the people from my college I met through the various study groups for my classes…it is definitely alot harder if your kinda of an introvert or even if your not one to adjust to new situations quick. Try taking some electives likes ballroom dance, you can meet alot of cool people that way and plus many of them are still UC transferable!

yeah…i found my job on craigslist also in my first semester of cc

I don’t really have any friends from my cc either bjt, just ppl who went to different community colleges from my high school…don’t get too depressed right now cuz after you transfer, you’re going to have the best time of your life

enjoy your easy classes (compared to at a 4 year) and take up a hobby, I personally started learning how to play golf and bball which gave me a whole separate group of friends and now I’m having a great time

you can do all that or…

get a girlfriend/boyfriend (which will give you something to “do” and have someone to do something with)

hold up…i just read your other post on “GPA below 3.0”

forget what I said…don’t even have a social life until you bring that GPA up

or…

maybe your GPA is low b/c your time in cc is not enjoyable and you aren’t motivated to do well and thus you have a very very low GPA

w/e get that GPA up by any means or you’re going to be screwed for getting into a 4 year

^

I don’t think you’re going to be necessarily “screwed”. It depends where you want to go afterward. If you decide you want to be a teacher and go to CSUN, then you should get accepted regardless of your grades now. That’s not an excuse to keep doing poorly in classes, though.

Maybe you don’t have a set career path? That happened with me. Everyone gave me the impression that I was to know what my career was right out of high school, and when I still didn’t know during my first semester I felt like I had let everybody down, and somehow rebelled by getting crap grades.

I don’t know. Remarkably, school isn’t supposed to be torture. Take some classes you’re actually interested in (that’s the beauty of college; it doesn’t have to be all about general ed), join a club or two, and cheer up. Things should get better.

I agree with most people and what they have posted so far!

I like CC because it gives you opportunities, I’m taking classes that I want to take because I feel like I will get something out of them but aren’t required and along the way, I’m meeting friends. But it isn’t as much as I’ve had in high school, and that’s okay. CC is just a crossing point, it’s not the rest of your life. As others have said, it’s only the start, and then when you transfer you will have more friends, more things to do, etc.

Join a club, get active! I’ve met a lot of friends that way! Plus you get perks. xD.

I wish you the best of luck!!! [:

1) Get a job at a retail store. They might not pay that much but you’ll have a blast at them.

2) Try to be crazy social on campus. People are pretty chill once you get to know them. Helps in making friends and getting help in classes.

3) Join clubs. Good way to meet people. Also a plus in strengthening your app.

agree with others…get a job, join a club or two, go to study skills workshops provided by the tutoring center and trust me, these help brush your skills which help you even after you transfer…take more than just 12 units and that oughta keep u busy but dont slack otherwise GPA will suffer …:D

The economy is an idea, not a thing. You cannot find a job within it.

Make sure that you have classes only 2 days a week, that will save you a lot of gas and energy.
I tried my best to have classes only on TTH or MW.
And try to get a job or something.
I sold things on ebay, made a lot of money. :). I dont think that i would have done the same if i werent at community college
It will also help your resume.

bjt223 - Well I’m a community college too. Although I actually don’t think it’s that miserable, besides the fact that I want to transfer soo badly to a great university. But really the best ways to make community college worthwhile is talk and acquire friends from clubs, class, and etc. I didn’t think I would make some friends at community college when I started but I later on did. You’d be suprised how many other people have the same aspirations as you do which spark up great conversations.

Also community college students know how to party. Hit up the party/talkative girls in some of your easy classes and by then that should lead you into a lot of things. It will really help you get some friends but also remember to balance out fun and work. For a job, I really suggest something like an internship related to your field of major or a startup job where you can find at your cc’s job posting.
