How can I motivate myself to study for the SAT?

I won't be taking the SAT till March of 2012, but I want to study now so that I'll score high when it's time to take the test.
My problem is that I keep zoning out whenever I start studying (I still have a year and 8 months left!). Please help! I need to motivate myself!

I think the easiest, but most effective way is to just change your thinking. First of all the must make getting a high SAT score a priority. If you effectively changed your mindset then instead of being unmovitvated, you should actually become excited.

This worked for me but I think the change in mindset may be the most difficult shift. Though, if you feign interest long enough, chances are it will become real soon enough.

Stop “studying” for the SAT this early.

Read hardcore books. It’s a better use of your time (to prepare), and you’ll learn some pretty cool stuff along the way as well.

Think of it this way:

There is a positive correlation between higher $AT scores and high salarie$$$$.

Dont even try to dispute this claim. The statement is factually correct. The 1500 SAT kid will 99.99% of the time earn less than the 2400 kid. In science, we can conclude that the low scorer will ALWAYS* earn less.

^My uncle got a 1100/1600 on old sat and has a networth of 50 million

^ Yeah my dad makes around 400 K a year and he got a sub 1000 on the old SAT with like a 3.0 GPA…

Think about all the burgers you’ll be flippin’ if you don’t break the 2390 mark.
And while you’re at it, drink plenty of orange juice.

I don’t think you need to start studying if you have nearly two years before the exam. I would start studying about 4-6 months (and that’s kind of a lot already) before your first exam.

For now, you could read a lot of books to improve your reading comprehension and to learn new and difficult vocabulary. You could even start studying vocab lists, since this will help you in your writing skills now anyway. Also make sure that you’ve taken all the math classes (up to Alg II) or at least know all the material before you start studying.

@Greed, MW2:

/facepalm.

99.99%

/facepalm

@GreedIsGood and @MW2isawesome
just wondering what do they do for a living!?

My Dad is president of a logging company and whats even weirder is that his degree was in chemical engineering. I honestly don’t know how that worked out but it did.

Get a fountain pen and ink (makes you want to write more) and somehow reward yourself for completing a sat workbook (I get ps3 games) :smiley: both costs are worth the higher sat score

In your school locker, put a picture or logo of your dream school… something that will remind you of your ultimate goal. Or opposite, similar to what someone said, put a picture of mcdonalds and you’ll think about how you are aiming for a high SAT score so as to not work there ;D

parochial, the SAT is hard, but studying is even harder fortunately i have found a great website that covers both of those problems studyprof.com. I have had the same problems when i studied to, until i read the info on this web site.

sincerly,
Caleb H. Blair

Ok your little “Uncle” is worth a lot.

How many 1560+'s are rich?

Bill Gates (1590) was the richest man in the world. He was worth 40 billion. What does that mean?

Specific instances doesnt mean jack. You kids need to take econ and statistics before going “but my ‘uncle’ earns $$$$.” In reality, your uncle probably works 5 janitorial jobs to scape together a passable middle class income (5 janitorial jobs can scrape around 60k$).

There are people who get 1300’s out of 2400 SAT yets still earn hundreds of millions. Dont believe me? :Sports stars. I’d bet A-Rod wasnt too smart in school. His contract? $250 MILLION.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lets all stop studying for SAT because apparently everyone can get a 1500 and still earn hundreds of millions!!!@@!@#!$#%$@%@

Greedisgood and MW2isAwesome, why dont u guys stop studying for SAT and start playing that xBox360. Burn your SAT books please.
