How can I participate in speech and debate competitions individually?

I am trying to get better at public speaking. I am pretty good at speeches and debates but I want to improve myself. I was looking into forensic events and debate competitions. But all of them I have found so far require a school team to participate through. My school doesn’t have a debate team/club and I realize that the best way for me would be to start a club in school. But due to a lot of reasons, I can’t take on the responsibility or work of starting and leading a debate club for the next year.

So I was wondering if anyone can guide me on how I can participate in speech and debate competitions individually without a school team? If you know of any other ways I can get better at public speaking, please let me know as well.

Thank you!

Check out Toastmasters… they are an organization whose purpose is to help people with public speaking.

Does another local school have one?
Can you convince someone else to create one?
How about a teacher?
What state are you from?

Also, are there other clubs like Mock Trial or Student Council or Model UN that would involve speaking?

Are you involved with a house of worship? Can you speak there?
