How can I salvage my Junior year and get into a good college?

I’m currently doing my Junior year in public school, but up until this point, I have been homeschooled. However, homeschool isn’t really quite an accurate description, because I basically didn’t do any schooling. At all. I had to make up a transcript in order to get into public school.

So, up until this year, I have nothing for colleges to see. No extracurriculars, no noteworthy classes, literally nothing. My chances of getting into a good college are riding on this year, and I’ve already screwed it up.

I’m taking 3 AP classes, but I’m also only in Geometry and Spanish 1. Far behind where I should be. I don’t think any college would take me seriously since I’m so far behind in these two subjects.

Here are my classes and grades…

AP World History - A
AP US History - A
AP English - D
Geology - B
Spanish I - B+
Geometry - C+
No extracurriculars at all.

Before the end of the semester, I should be able to bring my B grades up to a As, my math up to a B, and my English up to a C. But this is where I am now.

I’m really stressed out. I’m not sure I have any hope of getting into a decent college at this point. It’s optimistic to say that I’m even an average student.

If I bring my grades up to As and I volunteer somewhere and join a club, should that be enough to give me a chance? I need a plan. I’m at a loss.

You are being very hard on yourself. Those grades are actually pretty respectable, considering what you’ve had to overcome in terms of the school deficit to date. Infact, I think you have the basis for a pretty interesting college essay!

You can’t do any better than your best, at this point. Buckle down to bring that D up, enjoy what high school has to offer, and try not to get too caught up in the stress of what comes next. I think you will find a college or university that is a good fit for you and that once there, you will thrive! Best of luck to you!
