Okay, since I’m homeschooled, my schedule may seem slightly different from the average. But I would love any critique you guys could give!
Junior Year:
[Regular High School Classes]
AP US History
Algebra 2 Honors
English 3 Honors
Physics Honors
Spanish 3 (honors not available)
Business Corner/Intro to Web Design
[College Classes]
Intro to Programming {1 semester}
Human Creativity {1 semester}
Music Theory {1 semester}
Developmental Psychology {1 semester}
4 more college classes
Total College Credit: 26 College Credits
[Sef-Studied AP Classes]
AP World History
AP Government and Politics
AP Calculus AB
AP Microeconomics
I know it seems like a lot. But my homeschooled/online learning method allows for this much. I am not really shooting for even a top 50 school, but is this decent?
Thank you!
Dude, 5 AP tests with potential college credits and 26 more college credits (41 potential college credits) [in 1 school year] is WAYYYYY more than any junior schedule I’ve seen. This is more than decent, it’s super rigorous and will definitely look good on your transcript. Personally, I think you should try for a top 50 school. As long as your grades are (and were) good, you have a great chance of getting in.
Thank you so much! I don’t think it’s all THAT rigorous, and I’m definitely not good enough for a top 50, but yes, so far my high school gpa is a 4.3 out of 4.5 (weighted), and my college GPA is 4.0.
Thank you again!
@homeschooledgeek You homeschool? Can I pm you about it? (-:
Also, I think your schedule appears to be very rigorous, and it’s because of the CC classes added on. I would say to take the actual AP class rather than self-studying them - but that’s just my take. And don’t risk your grades for a heavier courseload!
Yes, of course you can PM me!
The reason I self-study is because my ‘school’ doesn’t offer these classes.
Don’t self study Calc while takeing Algebra 2 honors, that just doesn’t make sense. Also you don’t need both APUSH and WHAP, just take APUSH. Other than that, you’re probably good. A good alternative to self studying APs is also to just take the version at the college, you might want to look into that in the future.
The reason I am self-studying Calc while taking Algebra 2 is because I am actually far above Algebra 2. At the school I attend, however, you’re not allowed to be placed into higher classes - you have to take Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2. I am, however, at the level of Calculus. I would like to take both AP World History and AP US History, as I think they hold different information.
I am aware of this technique, and have instead chosen to save myself time and take these ‘self-studying’ courses online using Khan Academy and other resources.
How are your extra curricular? Colleges may care more about that and have no interest in self studying classes.
I believe my extracurriculars are okay. I’m not sure, of course. I run four organizations, have been a pianist for 10 years, have three jobs and do martial arts. I’m also a member and leader of 5 clubs.
