Many of the universities I will be applying to require that I take chemistry to be admitted to their engineering school. I am not allowed to take AP Chemistry, so I would have to take regular chemistry as a Senior. I am not readily willing to drop one of my AP classes to take a regular Chemistry class. I have taken earth systems. Will this fulfill the Chemistry requirement? I have asked my local community college to see if I can take an intro to Chemistry course, but they are asking me to take a bunch of prerequisite courses. Is there anything I can do to fulfill this?
Earth Systems will not fulfill a chemistry requirement. I know you don’t want to drop an AP, but if you are applying to colleges that require chemistry then that is what you are going to have to do. If you feel that strongly about not dropping an AP then find colleges that don’t have this requirement. What is more important to you - applying to these specific colleges, or not dropping an AP?
And if you do not have high school chemistry but go into a major that requires college chemistry, college chemistry will be more difficult for you than if you take high school chemistry first.
1° you need high school chemistry. If your school doesn’t have an Honors Chem version, see if it could let you take it “online” (there may be a problem with labs). Does the local community college have an intro to chemistry class? (NOT general chemistry, which is for science majors and assumes HS chemistry).
2° What are the other classes you’d be taking? Not all Aps are created equal, there may be one you can drop without damage.
