How can I start my personal statements now?

Hey guys!!!

I've been reading all this talk about how people begin to write their college essays during the summer before their senior year. How do they do this? How do you know what to write about and know for sure that your essay is eligible for the prompt? Don't the prompts change every year?

THANKS to anybody who responds with answers takes for taking the time to consider my inquiries.

You can write the common app essay right now, since the essay topic never changes from year to year. Basically, for common app you can write on “any topic of your choice”, which was what I did last December, or you can pick one of the given categories such as “significant experience” or “influential person” or “national concern” or some other ones.

I think you can find the essay topics on the common app website. Try googling it;)

Oh! Thank you so much! But, what I had in mind was the essay for UC schools - specifically UCLA which does not take common applications. So how could I prepare for such an essay? Thanks again Calico!

Mm, check out the UC website? I’m not familiar with their applications, but I’m sure you can find out what their essay topics were last year and whether those change from year to year…

Yea I have a list of the essays used in this past year. Now I just have to find out if they change ahah thanks for your help though!!!

Let’s see… last year’s topics:

Prompt #1 (freshman applicants)
Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

Prompt #1 (transfer applicants)
What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement.

Prompt #2 (all applicants)
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

Edit: Never mind! I see you’ve found it too:D

Hahahahaha wow you are very helpful! Thanks so much!

Hello guys… I don’t know what to write or what topic should I pick up to write my [uk essays](http://www.essaywriter.co.uk/). Can anyone suggest a great topic for me? Thanks.

brainstorming, strategizing, and understanding what makes a good essay. pm me.

and you can almost always adapt any essay to fit any prompt with the right revision and focus, so some general “idea based” as opposed to “prompt based” essays in your arsenal will go a long way

Most college prompts are available some time in the summer if not earlier. UC prompts have been the same for many years (maybe 5 or so). So those might stay the same again. Common app essay is the same every year which is basically topic of your choice. You can certainly start your essays some time in the summer which is highly recommanded.
