It's impossible to become popular with everyone in a huge school. Why would you even want to?

Focus on making strong connections with people in your immediate circle - the people you live with, people in your same major, and people in any organizations/sports/groups you join. Your life will be a lot fuller that way.

Even major athletes like the Heisman Trophy winner at my school when I was a freshman are not necessarily well liked.

College IS very different than HS when you go to a big school. There aren't cliques in the HS sense, but people naturally tend to hang out with people like them. So the stoners still hang out with the stoners, and the Greeks hang out with other Greeks, and the athletes hang out with the athletes and the honors program kids hang out with the honors program kids. The difference in college is that there are 30 different groups of stoners and the half the swim team loves hanging out with the football team while another 1/3 are always hanging out with track guys. And there are fraternity chapters that absolutely refuse to hang out with certain sororities.

And there's a difference between well known and popular. Just b/c you aren't well known on campus doesn't mean you can't have many friends.

On a night when the weather is right for being outside, find a big dormitory with a large flat blank wall, get a movie projector and project porn movies onto it while providing free refreshments. You'll find you become very popular with a certain set, even if decried by many others.

Don't go for the softcore stuff either. Get downright hardcore and nasty and you'll get plenty of bonus points..

Depends on what you view as "popular" ...... in large universities, nobody cares about a particular person (YOU) ..... people lose their high school mentality once they enter college.
