How cold is ohio state?

i love every single thing about the school except that i’m afraid i’ll freeze to death (i’m from arizona/california) lol. i don’t tend to get cold but that doesn’t say much coming from a southwest native. is it really THAT cold?

The British adventurer Sir Rannulph Fiennes said “There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.” And that is how you should view your time at Ohio State. If you dress like you are still in the desert southwest (shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops) you will be cold and miserable. But if you invest in a decent jacket (layers are ideal, so think about a high quality 3-in-1 jacket), gloves, hat and waterproof shoes or boots, along with a hoodie or two and some microfleece, you will do great. My personal priority is smart wool socks because I HATE for my feet to be cold. If you are worried about looking geeky, think about snowboarding clothing.

I speak as someone who moved to Ohio four years ago from Tampa, Florida. My guys LOVE it here. As I mentioned previously to someone on this forum, they like “weather you can play with.”

I am a native Ohioan and I can tell you we had a worse winter than usual this year. Ususally it is not so bad. Typically, January and February are the coldest months with snow on the ground for a few weeks on and off. However, the sidewalks are kept clear at OSU, just watch out for icy puddles at the curbs after a thaw! Mostly you will be running back and forth between buildings which isn’t bad as long as you don’t schedule yourself all over campus. Vailsmom’s clothing suggestions are dead on.
