How common are midyear reports?

A book I read today (I think a PR book about applications) said that 'practically all colleges require a midyear report."

This was rather a surprise.

Only three out of nine of my schools require midyear reports as far as I know and most, if not all, of them are good schools.

Is it possible that a school would want a midyear report even if there are no midyear report forms to be found in any of its PDF files?

<p>Most of the schools which you have mentioned that do not require mid-year reports have rolling admissions, where it would be in your best interest to apply early as midyear reports for RD are usually due around Feb. 15. Depending upon when you apply your school will definitely send a transcript which may have your mid year grades if you are applying around Feb.</p>

<p>What's the deal with midyear reports, anyway? Do colleges suddenly revoke your admissions if you decide to start slacking a little? Are there warnings?</p>

<p>Well if you're applying regular they get your midyear reports before they decide whether to accept you. If you've already been accepted to an early school, they can revoke the acceptance or put you on academic probation once you attend.</p>
