How common is it for online colleges to allow a student to take one class at a time?

Hello, I want to attend an online college (for a degree I am not currently decided on). However, I want to try and pay these classes out of pocket as much as possible. What I would like to ideally happen is pay for one class at a time. Save up while taking the current class in order to pay for the next.

Is what I want possible or even common for online colleges? Even if I only have a hand full of degrees to choose from I will take it.

Lots of places will let you take one course each term. Start with your own home state community colleges and public universities. Chances are they have online options that might work for you.

Yes, many schools, especially online ones, will allow you to proceed at your own pace. My mother-in-law took what I think was 8 years getting her degree after she retired.
