How competetive is Cyber Security at UTSA?

Hey y’all!
I’m a freshman at Stephen F. Austin, IT major. My GPA is a 3.8 and it is my mission to keep it up there. I’m interested in the Cyber Security program at UTSA, and currently I don’t see my self coming back to sfa for the fall. I have a question that i want to get out of the way: is it possible for me to transfer into cyber security at UTSA as an IT major? And my main question is: how competitive is it? I ask because as I looked at UTSA’s Cyber security page, it said that they’re ranked #1 by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. Because of this, I assume their program is competitive to get into.

Anyone?

Reach out to the transfer admissions officer at UTSA to ask these questions, s/he should be able to give you good guidance

I agree with @Mwfan1921, call UTSA. I do know it is an excellent program but not much beyond that.

You do see that it looks like that program is 100 percent online?

Here is the link to the requirements. https://online.utsa.edu/cyber/cyber-security/admission-requirements-transferring-credits/

It’s not only online @bluebayouaz Cyber security is an on-campus business school (ug) major https://future.utsa.edu/study/cyber-security/

Thanks for the clarification @Mwfan1921 - My search dumped me to this page http://catalog.utsa.edu/undergraduate/business/informationsystemscybersecurity/#cybersecurity

which is confusing at best. One of my daughter’s friends is interested in cyber security - so the program had peaked my interest.

I have a son’s friend that is doing it on campus. Got a great internship after the first year.

It appears that the widely recognized cyber security programs are generally at the masters level. Because of the shortage, the government has also set up designated programs all over the US to pay Cyber Corps:Scholarships. It might be wise to look over this list as it identifies educational programs that the government program has bought into. It does not include any Stephen F. Austin programs, but does include UT Austin and many others. There are seven in Texas. Complete a BS at any of these institutions and they will pay for graduate work in Cyber security.

Don’t worry about “rankings.” Consider this a listing vetted by the government in this field of study.
