How competitive are Dartmouth athletics? Mainly W soccer, possibly crew.

So, just like the title says I am wondering about the competitiveness of women’s soccer. I have been playing since I could walk (like 15 years) and have played on good club teams and did a year of ODP, but my high school is really small and there is no chance a recruiter would ever venture to Wisconsin to watch me play. I get that it’s a D1 school, but the actual toughness of making a team can vary by sport, right? Regarding that last statement I’ve heard that it is relatively easy to walk on as a coxswain in D1 rowing programs as long as you are of the right size and character, which I believe I fit the bill. Anyway, if I could actually participate in one of these at D that would be really cool, and I have also heard that athletic interest can improve you acceptance chances, so I am looking for direction to the next step. Do I just email the coaches like “hey, I want to play for you,” or is it a lot more complicated? Thanks so much!

smithemi97: Are you a junior now? Have you talked to your club coach about helping you? Does your club play in any large well known tournamnents? If you do, you can contact the Dartmouth coaches about coming to see you play. Another alternative is to prepare a highlights video and send it to the Dartmouth coachs. Best of luck to you.

GO OUT FOR RUGBY!!! A varsity sport as of this year but probably still feeling its way as far as recruitment & walk-ons are concerned. As a club, it was always “everyone is welcome” and “come & learn” and I kind of doubt that that ethos will change anytime soon.

Awesome feedback! Kaukauna, I am a senior so I am a little late on the bandwagon for the recruitment process. I might try to put together a video, though. My most recent club coach was kind of a dud - she played for a community college team. One of the teams I play for does showcase tournaments but I haven’t made it to any and I don’t know how much of a help it would be at this point. Thanks for those links, AboutTheSame! And rugby does sound like fun, but I think I have to get in first to know whether I’d like to play it there, haha.
