How competitive is BME?

How competitive is BME at UT Austin? I'm wondering if I should apply to MechE and try to transfer in if BME is really hard to get into.

Thanks!

PS. BME is Biomedical Engineering, and MechE is Mechanical Engineering for those who didn't know

BME is VERY competitive because it is such a small department (relatively speaking!). I think ME would be a better bet. Also keep in mind that with a bachelor’s degree in BME, you would probably need to go to graduate school in order to get a job. With ME, you could get a job straight out of school much easier. Good luck!

Thanks @MaineLonghorn‌!
