According to CB, only 559 people applied ED to Rice! I'm assuming the # of ED applicants is low because Rice also offers EA, or Interim decision. Is the ED applicant pool very competitive? How does it compare to EA and RD?

Well, considering Rice class size is about 700, that's not a bad number of people applying ED. No idea how competitive it is though...you might be able to find some stats on the Rice website.

There's a thread around here somewhere that mentions that the acceptance rate for ED and EA is nearly the same.

like.... if you are pretty secure in the fact that you'll get into rice, go interim or regular because with ED you have to give them your definate answer and i had to tell them yea/nay the day before my GA tech presidential scholarship interview so i could have possibly gone to college without becoming a bum and selling my soul to finance this. i don't regret choosing rice though because i knew I was going here and tech was just a backup.

I'm not very secure actually, haha. Would you mind posting your stats?

i don't mind-
i got 1510 on the sat 760 math 750 verbal
30 on the act
SAT II writing-680, math IIc - 750, and chemistry - 650

90+ is an A at my school and a GPA of 90+ is a 4.0, but my gpa was like 98.9 weighted, i dunno unweighted.
i was on the volleyball team for 4 years and captain one year, and president of science olympiad, captain of the math team, member of NHS, german NHS, and i think that's it. i went to the governor's honors program in math last summer, i play guitar and banjo.
a lot of people have stats like mine or better (i never saved a third world nation), but i think i set myself apart with my creativity and passion. just be smart and be different.. and you'll be fine. try not to be stereotypical.. Rice gives you a lot of opportunity to show admissions your personality through the application.

I would have applied ID with those stats.

i found my transcript and my gpa unweighted was 95.7, and i didn't send my ACT score for obvious reasons - haha

That's awesome. Are you originally from Texas?

nah georgia- i've never even been to texas yet

same here, i really have no idea what rice is like, but really i have never known what a school was like before i went there anyway. ilse are from atl?

i lived in atl up til 5th grade and i've been in rome since. i like a small town better.. but i'll just have to get used to houston

The 2004 Stats for Rice indicate that 30% of people who applied ED to Rice got in.
