How competitive is UCLA Mech. Engr.

<p>Alright, I took one too many classes this summer and earned my first B, dropping my GPA to 3.68. For next semester I am enrolled for total 18 units. I anticipate getting 3 As and error margin of getting one B, and that will take my over all GPA to 3.76. If I add one more class to fall semester (21 units in total, with same calculations, 4 As and one B) my GPA will be 3.78.
So I wanted to know how competitive UCLA Mechanical Engineering admissions are? Is it worth taking the risk of one more class for .02 GPA increase?
I know 3.76-3.78 is not too good for UCLA engineering, however i am banking on me being a un-conventional student, with 4 years of work experience (not related to my field) and starting a family business with my father (which has been an excellent/profitable venture for our family).
So i have 2 questions actually,
Should I take one more class for .02 GPA increase (does 3.78 look much better than 3.76 or they are almost treated the same)<br>
And are my stats good enough for UCLA Mechanical Engineering for fall '13.
Thank you.</p>

<p>Very competitive!</p>

<p>Not likely; the cutoff was 3.91 this year; but there are other programs just as good if not better out there</p>

<p>You might try for UCLA anyway, because YOLO. Keep in mind, however, that even if you don’t get into UCLA, you have a good chance of getting into UCI or UCSD. I think the required GPA for a TAG into UCSD is a 3.5, which you qualify for, as long as you maintain it throughout the 2012 school year.</p>

<p>^^ Mechanical Engineering @ UCSD is impacted, and TAG does not guarantee applicants into impacted major (I got rejected from ME last year with a 3.5, but got into EE).</p>
