How Critical If College Has Not Received HS School Reports and Transcripts by Deadline?

I don't know whether this really depends on specific school, but in general, I would like to get some basic sense of HOW colleges usually handle the late arrivals of School Reports and Transcripts, assuming that all Comm Apps are complete, and application fees are paid for.

My kid submitted everything required to UNC well before the deadline. However, it hasn't yet received the school reports and transcript yet (10 days after deadline). It appears that several students from the same HS received notice about missing transcripts. We parents, as you know, are very hesitant to ask or remind the SC on this as this is just beginning of many applications. The SC doesn't seem to worry too much about the deadlines. As a first-time college bound parent, I would like to know how critical to colleges if HS missed deadline for School Reports and Transcripts? Will students who are missing those docs still be considered for application (Pending receipt of those docs for admission notice?). Basically, I just like to know whether it's a CLEAR CUT policy here: Sorry, we don't have your school reports and transcript by deadline, and you are not be considered!

Thanks great for your insight!

Usually colleges will allow supporting documents to be submitted within one or two weeks after the application deadline.

Are you sure that your kid’s counsellor knows to send them to UNC for the correct deadline? Just making sure. Once you know they’ve been sent, it might not hurt for your kid to email the admissions office apologising for the late documents and saying that they have been sent.

Hi LAMuniv, Thanks greatly for your comments.

Yes. The HS’ online process record indicates that the docs were sent out 3 weeks ago but UNC still yet to receive yet. The issue here is that the SC doesn’t want to send it again AND he does’t think it’s a big deal either. As you can see, the student is the only party at loss in this situation.

Some schools do require that all materials are received by the deadline, but UNC does not. I know I saw it elsewhere, but I just looked at their website and an earlier blog post says, “Remember, you only need to submit your application portion of the Common Application by October 15 for Early Action consideration. Your transcript, counselor report, letters of recommendation and test scores can arrive later.” So, I wouldn’t worry about it too much but I’d keep my eye on it.

@suzy100. Very good point! No wonder I got a very vague answer from UNC when I called.
