At the end of my junior year I was told by my school that I had a solid lead and would easily maintain my class rank as 2. As a result I took 6 APs and 1 honors course my senior year to challenge myself, knowing that my grades could dip a tenth or two and I'd be ok. However, an administrative error was discovered that actually places me in 3rd by less than .01%.
I am currently enrolled in AP Physics. (I'm planning on majoring in accounting so it's not relevant to my intended major. I took it to challenge myself.) Since science is not my forte, I have a 92 in the class which is dragging my average down significantly, and all but eliminating my chances of regaining my spot as salutatorian.
If I drop AP Physics, my class rank would go up most likely (while I know colleges don't really care about rank, it is important to me). My main question is how bad dropping will look to colleges. I will drop-pass the course and it will disappear from my transcript, however all my colleges will have to be notified of the change in schedule according to my counselor.
So,is it worth it to drop?

no, don’t drop it.

Only the colleges you’ve already applied to have to be informed. Have you already submitted the application to more than a few colleges?
