How demanding is a Foreign Language class? (Spanish)

I want to learn enough Spanish to be able to use it in the workplace. In order to achieve this, how many classes do I need to take? Do I have to minor?

I plan to start from Spanish 1 P/NP, and then continue with 2 and 3. How demanding do foreign language classes become at the intermediate level? Can I become proficient enough in the language to minor if I start from the very beginning?

Language is something that everyone picks up differently. I took Spanish in high school, then took Spanish 1, 2, and 3 at Davis my Junior year. If you start from the beginning, and really commit to studying, you can probably speak well enough to have limited conversations with people by the end of Spanish 3. You should have no problem minoring in the language if you take studying seriously enough.

keep in mind 1 2 and 3 all meet for an hour every day. language classes are very work intensive, if you didn’t know that already. in german at least, at the intermediate level (double digits) the classes meet 3x a week instead of 5.

you don’t HAVE to minor to do anything, but judging from my proficiency at german you will probably want to have up to a year of intermediate spanish for workplace use. i tested into german 21 (it goes 1, 2, 3, 20, 21, 22) and i found it too difficult so i’m taking 20 next quarter.
