I'm an upcoming senior and have played tennis since I was a freshman. I played varsity as a junior and if challenge matches went according to plan, would most likely make varsity again this year. It is up in the air however because my team is very competitive.

I love the sport but I'm not sure it's where I should be focusing my efforts. My top choice school is Boston College, which is big on volunteering. I figured i would have time to get more community service in if I dropped the time commitment of tennis. Our coach recently got fired and most of the girls are very catty and made last season a painful experience. I'm not sure I want to put myself through that again. I also plan on getting college applications in and possibly apply to BC early action, so I would need that extra time to put in to my applications. My senior year schedule is the most rigorous I've ever taken, with 5 AP's and no study hall. If I quit, i wouldn't run into the problem of having my grades suffer because of meets running late and too much stress from constant invites and tournaments. My school also requires a senior service project that requires lots of time.

How hurtful is quitting a sport senior year in order to focus on my academics and to minimize stress? I would continue to play recreationally but I'm just not sure if playing for the school is the right thing for me at the moment. My worst fear is that the admissions offices will look down on me for being not committed or something.
