how do you think CC became as booming as it is today? how long do you think it took to get a good amount of members? Besides google, what other ways, especially in its early days, do you think CC advertised and how did ppl find it?

I just googled prep school and found it. But I know there have been mentions in the NYTimes, etc. And I assume it bounced up in membership when the rat race (i.e. college race) became insane, because every overachiever (or wannabe overachiever) wanted to find a way to get into their dream college because their odds rose.

i once stumbled upon a REALLY old thread of CC in the parents forum that was fairly interesting.
It talked about whether it was better to post here at CC and get a few responses in a week, but have all of the responses be good ones, or go to PR's discussion, and put up with all the spamming, but get many more responses in a day. If I remember correctly, the thread was from 2001... but don't take that for fact.

my teacher told me about cc. It's also in wikipedia, and google, so that's good advertising. But I guess that they really spread by work of mouth. kids just kept telling people how it helped in the college admissions process and that made more people come and check it out.

but practically all ccers are americans, which is pretty weird because alot of people I talk to here are internation, and only a few are ever from america....
it must be the time difference ro something....
