How did I not get accepted? Honestly distraught

Not crazy. I think this is the most plausible theory. Your website could affect FSU players’ potential draft to NFL teams, maybe? I don’t know much about football, but I think @shortnuke is onto something.

While it certainly is disheartening to be flat out rejected by FSU, there are a number of things that could be the reason for why you got rejected.

My first concern would be that with a weighted and unweighted GPA so close together, your course rigor may not be as high as FSU wanted to see. Course rigor is FSU’s #1 factor.

Not that it helps you here, but being a legacy is a very minor factor in the application. Officially, only being a first-time-in-college applicant is a considered factor in admissions. Some things not included in considerations are: letters of recommendation and your level of interest in FSU. Things that are minor factors: volunteer and work experience, and ECs.

If any grades were below a C on your transcript, that would likely explain this. It seems unlikely, but it would be a very valid reason.

I rarely recommend that you call admissions to ask why you were not accepted, but you seem to be in a position where finding out firsthand why you were rejected would be beneficial as it does not appear to be anything obvious on the surface. Don’t have your guidance counselor or parents call for you- do it yourself.

Do NOT make the call yourself. Ask your GC to call. That is typical in this situation. You will just get brushed off. The GC might get some honest feedback that could help your other apps. If it is truly your first choice, ask the GC to relay it. I’m a little surprised you didn’t at least get a courtesy waitlist given your legacy status.

Agree with #22 and others. Have your GC call.
The football hypothesis sounds interesting.

Wow, @kac12321 that stinks, you have gotten lots of good advice here. How did you get declined at U Washington-Seattle already, they haven’t even released decisions yet?! Are you appling as a transfer student? You have a great list of options, hopefully you will hear something good soon!

Sorry to hear,
Tne paperwork we had for applying to FSU said DO NOT send any LOR, maybe that was an issue?

Regarding the foreign language requirement, I thought that FSU requires 2 years (not 3 years) of a foreign language. If you took 4 years that should have been more than enough to meet FSU’s requirement.

I should have said that the requirement is 2 sequential years of the same language. Typical admit is 3 years.

I’m no help but wanted to echo sentiments of validating your feelings. Have the GC call.

Definitely have guidance counselor call. I would say that you have a great shot at getting into Indiana University. UT Austin is a real longshot even with your amazing background. The kids instate have to be at top 7% of their class and even with that, they might not get into their major. OOS is very, very difficult. D1 was enrolled at IU and then did get accepted to UT Austin which was a great surprise for us. She then disenrolled at IU and went to UT,

Please report back! I would’ve thought you were a sure thing.

Florida is notoriously competitive, especially for flagship schools. SAT is on target, but the average GPA is 3.9 according to prepscholar. The statistical chance is 33%. Your guidance counselor was dead wrong.

I’m just going to say that there has been a very unexpected turn in FSU admissions this year, from acceptances to merit aid in the form of OOS tuition waivers. FSU has made major shifts from historical data and @kac12321 I believe with all my heart that you should pursue this decision if this is where you want to be. What concerns me about this scenario is what can students do when their counselor is not available to make these calls (extremely large, public high schools) and they are being told NOT to call themselves. Of course they should call. Or should their parents call? School counselors are not always willing and able.

Well, sure, if the counselor won’t do it. But if the counselor WILL do it, it is the most reasonable route to get information that might at least help the student with their other applications. It could be that the student came across as entitled (legacy, extra recommendations that are beyond what they request, etc). Getting some REAL feedback (instead of being brushed off) should be their top goal. Maybe some component was missing or was misunderstood. So start with the GC. But if they won’t call, then the student could call and ask.

My son was accepted to FSU with 4.1w and 1300 SAT. I’m surprised you weren’t admitted. If this is your dream school, file an appeal. I would suggest asking to be considered for summer admission and be really nice and polite.

“severe heart condition”

OP: I am sorry that this was most likely the reason for your rejection. Did you have someone familiar with the college application process proofread your essay ? If so, they should have known better.

Are you saying that they rejected him because of his heart condition? Wouldn’t that be illegal under ADA? Why would that matter anyway?

A top 10 sports management program is easy to get into? Who said that? Also, FSU’s applications blew up this year. I have no idea why.

Check and see if you can appeal the decision. If you must go the community college route then TCC is your best bet. You can enroll in the TCC2FSU program that guarantee admittance upon gaining your AA. Going to a CC will let you adjust to college life as TCC is sort of “half way” in terms of what high school and university is like.
