I live in DeLand, Florida, and I'm kind of worried that I won't get in to FSU :/ I'm looking to major in either criminology, communications, professional vocalist, or music production.

I have a 3.2 weighted gpa, 2.7 unweighted. However, that's from my high school. I couldn't figure out how to recalculate properly to FSU's standards.
I'm an IB Student, 2 honors courses, 2 regular courses, otherwise all Pre-IB in 9th/10th grade, IB in 11th/coming up 12th grade.
As you can tell from the gpa, mostly B's but 2-3 a's and c's since High School began.
I'm Review editor of the school newspaper, 3700 kids attend my school.
Also am involved in Spanish National Honor Society (took 4 years and hopefully a 5th to get my bilingual degree)
Also have many community service hours involving performing for benefits and such.

1830 on SAT (500 math, 640 writing, 690 reading)

My GPA is worrying me. Can anyone help? Thankss!

Looking to apply early decision next month.

Then you need to write a really good essay and maybe try to explain why your grades were so low (assuming they’ve improved rather than dropped).

Well, they’ve been pretty steady B’s throughout high school :/

And yeah, I’m definitely going to take a lot of time with the essay. I’m strong in reading and writing, especially from being on newspaper staff for the past three years, so writing well won’t be too difficult. I just hope that an essay and taking IB classes will help make up for a 3.2 wgpa :/

So, along with getting A’s&B’s this coming year, would getting such grades in FLVS help that? I don’t know much about how GPAs work, obviously, haha.

That is a worksheet to recalculate your FSU GPA. That is the formula they use, with only core courses and the weighting scale. Your SAT score on CR and W are great, but your math is the bare minimum FSU requires just to apply. So be sure its not really 490 because your application will automatically be deferred/declined.

I think your strength of schedule with IB is a positive and they will take that into consideration with your GPA. Your SAT minus your math is great. A few FLVS courses that are not core courses will not raise your FSU GPA. I would retake the SAT after some summer math prep and then I think your are likely in if you get your math even to just 520-540. With some practice tests or prep just in math it is not that hard to do.

Thanks, I tried that worksheet last night and just got confused. However, I’m touring the college next week and have an admissions session/interview so I will ask then about the whole recalculation.

I was thinking of taking Latin 1 (and if interested 2 & 3), and also Global Studies with FLVS.

&I agree with the math. I find it pretty laughable that it is almost 200 points beneath my reading score, but it is indeed a 500 and not a 490. I plan to retake the test and get it up. Should I note this in my early decision application?
