academically - pretty good. loved my calc class - the professor was a crazy genius and he sang to us. chem and psych were pretty good too. nice profs, good grades. i hated physics, but that's never been a good subject for me anyhow. and my freshman seminar was basically a waste of time.

socially - pretty good. started off slow, but finding a solid group of friends now and they are awesome people. been having a good time.

glad its vacation though, finals were killer, i could use a few weeks without stress. =D

Hmm...I think 1st semester was summed up for me when I was gathering together all of my papers to create a final portfolio for the writing class all freshmen are required to take. All semester I LOATHED the class - I was getting a B- in it when I had been a "great" writer all through HS, I was bitter towards my professor and the class itself because of my GPA, and I wished with all of my heart that I had signed up for a different section. That was until I actually took a look at the first paper I wrote sitting next to my final thesis paper...and it finally dawned on me that I hadn't even realized how drastically I had improved as a writer just over the course of working my butt off throughout the semester. That was the first time I actually understood that it really isn't about the grade - it was about how incredibly much I'd learned.

With that said, I think first semester went amazingly. I love where I am, I couldn't be happier anywhere else, and I still know that the best is yet to come. It doesn't get much better than that.

only 1 out of 5 classes I took was in my plan before the semester lol. but it all worked out in the end. i like all of them. My Japanese class is tons of fun. I didn't like my theater class so much because (I think) it's not for me and I was a little bit intimidated by other kids in class but it turned out quite well and I got good grade :D

i've met some amazing people here. however, i don't belong to this place yet. i have different groups of friends and don't know where I'm really fit into.

i've tried some new things and have fun.
oh, and i realized that i have the worst time managing skill.

i earned a's in all my classes, except for a b+ in philosophy. socrates and i didn't get along, lol. so much stuff happened in the past four months. i really learned a lot this semester (more than i ever learned in high school), met some really interesting people in my dorm and had some amazing professors, learned to study for an exam in a day and exist on little to no sleep, developed an eating disorder (not cool), discovered that i can really work hard when i am challenged, and made some awesome friends. i feel as though i haven't fully opened myself up to other people yet, but hopefully i will more next semester.

Earned mostly A's cept for some B+'s. Like the above poster I go to UCONN and its pretty nuts. My dorms quite happening at all hours of day be it 3 am or 6 am. Since I'm an engineering major I had to study my ass off but towards the end of the semester I finally was able to get out more and hang out with people some more. Definitely would have liked to party more and work out more, but too many classes didn't permit it. Next semester should be better for me with a lighter course load so I will finally get into the whole college experience more thoroughly.

my macroeconomics final counted as my whole grade in the class and my professor clearly stated that he'd make it extremely difficult to make an A. Thanks to Piracetam, I ended up with an A in the class.

First semester went extremely well for me...
Went into one class as a non-major (with 99% being majors) and I got one of the few A range grades... I also liked it so much within the first couple of weeks that I decided to double major with it...
The only thing I didn't like was the math final... He tells us its on one thing and does completely the opposite. Moreso he put impossible numbers on it so that we had to do simultaneous equations with e to some random numbers (and no, the exponented numbers weren;t even the same). One class I thought I was going to get a B and I came out with an A (chemistry).
Lastly my GPA was about .6 points higher than high school considering:
1) UR is known for grade deflation (In chem A-range is 850+ and from that a few students get A's and a majority in that range get A-'s... In polisci she restricts A range to about 5% of the class)
2) College courseload is much much larger than high school
HOWEVER:
I think that actually studying the stuff helped A LOT :)

Looks like everyone overall had an amazing semester and just can't wait to get back to school. Did no one have a bad semester and have a bad taste in their mouth about college?

Mine went very well... However since I'm a transfer student from a junior college, this is not really my first quarter... It's just my first quarter at an actual university.

I see, my first semester of college has been god awful but I am confident that my future ones shall be better, here's hoping. I'm still 100% in my high school mode, I'm not used to being at college and finding it really hard to adjust to the college life.

My first semester was peachy. Just. Peachy. Basically, I was sexually assaulted the first weekend after I got there. It happened at an off-campus party so the school couldnt do anything about it and the DA convinced me to let him drop the charges when he found out some of the idiots friends were going to lie for him. This was a small school and, of course, word got out about it causing me to become the topic way too much idle conversation. Depending on whom you asked, I was promiscuous and/or psycho. I decided to transfer to a college near my home for this semester.

On the upside, I came out with a 4.0. Im also a theatre major and was cast in a major role in one of the schools productions which was a pretty major accomplishment for a freshman. I ended up making some good friends who it saddened me to leave, as well.

Sooo In exactly one week Ill be moving into the dorms for my second college where Ill be finishing off all possible general education courses the acting conservatories for which Ill be auditioning most weekends through February require. In a way, its going to be good that where Ill be this semester will be a lot like high school. Im going to be rooming with a h/s friend and already have a whole group of friends to hang out with ... who I knew in h/s. Hopefully, Ill be starting at a third next September.

I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience at college #1. Congratulations on your success with theater and academics and best of luck for your future.
