How did we miss this???

prepreview is also old and out of date. We have had numerous threads here on CC complaining about the prep review data being old and incorrect and things of that nature.

The fact is these school do not release their information to sites like the prep review … by mutual agreement the administrators of these schools found places like prepreview counter productive and improperly done. Have you even wondered for instance how they weight the different statistics (ie. SAT vs endowment/student vs SSAT VS College Matric rates) for instance ? No methodology is given … Suspicious eh ?

Research these schools for yourself before reaching your conclusions. See which school fits your interests most and which school you can take the most away from. Then go there and be happy. :P

I don’t really care about rankings, they are what they are. I will not base my choice based on rankings, they are always a side plus.

Good Kafkareborn. You are right on:

““Research these schools for yourself before reaching your conclusions. See which school fits your interests most and which school you can take the most away from. Then go there and be happy””

If you are not happy …transfer.

Really, any effort at compiling US News-style ranking for private schools is worthless. Schools don’t like it either, and they certainly aren’t providing any information to help out PrepReview. Have you ever read the fine print on that site?

“PrepReview.com assumes no responsibility for error, inaccuracy, or omissions; makes no commitment to update the information contained herein…”

The Handbook of Private Schools was first published in 1915, and we don’t charge a fee to be listed in the book or try to rank schools in any way – and our information is the better for it. Schools fill out detailed questionnaires every year, which we supplement with extensive research on the web. We list college matriculations for the most recent graduating class only (not 3- or 5-year totals), SAT breakdowns for math, verbal and writing, AP exam scores, and other data that presents an objective picture of each school.

You can find it in most libraries, or your school might have a copy (it’s a big fat red hardcover book).

mpicz, The Westminster Schools is the top private school day school in Atlanta. If you live next door to the school, you would know this level of detail. Westminster is also known as the Harvard of the S.E. as far as private day schools are concerned. Just FYI, no worries.

Yep. Westminster and Pace are looked at as the most prestigious in atlanta. Westminster is more well known outside because of its larger size.

You live in atlanta also. Pace? I got into both after middle school but decided not to go. I guess no one really notices prestige when you actually live in the place. They seem like normal random schools to me…Especially pace. Pace, Lovett, Westminster…and so on. All seem the same, random private schools.

Oh well.

Pace and Westminster do pretty well, I just know that because I’ve been to Atlanta a lot (relatives). Average 1300/1600 Sat for them. Although a lot from both go to UGA because of the full pay hope scholarship, many go to top 20 schools as well. These two are considered the two best schools in the southeast.

Lovett and Woodward are more like random private schools.

Well from my perspective as someone who has lived here forever. I have friends from every single one of those schools, no one can really tell the difference. If anything people would switch out Pace with Woodward. Just because so many people ride MARTA all the way south from the north just to attend Woodward.

No one does that for Pace really…pace seems like a random school.

Really? Woodward?

I just know people in admissions of places and some families who have been in Atlanta for a long while.
Pace and Westminster sit in the heart of the rich neighborhood though, and therefore require no use of MARTA.
Looking at statistics given to me, Pace and Westminster stand out with SAT, SSAT, Matriculation, and AP courses offered.

Well Woodward actually use to be boarding that’s why it’s farther away. That hasn’t stopped the rich from sending their kids to the academy still though. The school works it out so that they ride it in little to big packs. And Westminster and Pace are pretty far away from each other. My private school is near pace…no where near Westminster. And the school I go to is actually tied with Westminster for the most expensive in Atlanta.

I really have no clue about the matriculation numbers and stuff. I just know the reputation/prestige factor amongst locals. Westminster is also the biggest private school in atlanta…it’s pretty much a public school. That probably helps matriculation.

westminster’s famous for sending loads of kids to ivies aren’t they?
i think last year they sent 3 to harvard, 3 to yale, and… 2 to dartmouth.
not quite sure, but i’m pretty sure about harvard.

^Loads?
Milton sent 12 kids to Harvard in 1 year at 34 in 2 years.

umm… westminster isn’t a school like andover, milton, sps, or exeter…
it’s just a typical private day school is georgia, so… that’s actually a lot.

Yea that’s what I’m saying. It’s a good school, and probably the best in atlanta. A prestigious school in georgia…but it cannot be compared to the like of HADES or
‘top tier’ BS’s.

Would you say it is comparable with Roxbury Latin?

No not close. Or maybe prestige is just more felt in the New England area, idk.

I got that feeling, too. NE seems to have an old WASPish feel to it, making it seem like the bread basket for prestige.

Hmm, I saw one mention of Andover and that was with relevance to George W. Bush :(

Haha, yeah upon reading it I believe Andover should recieve more credit
